Senior Product Designer Design Systems

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Product Designer — Design Systems based in United States.

This is a senior product design opportunity focused on scaling and evolving a design system across a growing digital product platform.
You will help modernize legacy experiences, establish reusable patterns, and create a more consistent and accessible product experience.
The role combines strategic systems thinking with hands-on design execution and close collaboration with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
You will play a key role in strengthening the connection between design and development while improving how teams discover, adopt, and contribute to the system.
A major focus will be exploring AI-enabled workflows that can accelerate component discovery, documentation, quality assurance, and pattern generation.
You will have meaningful influence over design standards, product quality, and the efficiency of cross-functional teams.
This role is well suited to a systems-minded designer who is comfortable navigating complexity, advocating for quality, and turning design principles into scalable solutions.

Accountabilities
  • Scale and continuously evolve the design system, prioritizing high-traffic and legacy product experiences.
  • Audit existing interfaces to identify component gaps, inconsistencies, duplication, and opportunities for consolidation.
  • Design reusable components and interaction patterns that support scalable product development.
  • Partner closely with engineers to ensure components are accessible, production-ready, and accurately translated from design into code.
  • Champion usability, accessibility, visual consistency, and overall product quality across the platform.
  • Establish, document, and communicate design system principles, standards, and design decisions across the organization.
  • Explore and implement AI-enabled workflows for component discovery, documentation, quality checks, and pattern generation.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce duplication and improve efficiency across Product Design and Engineering.
  • Monitor system adoption and usability, using insights to continuously improve the effectiveness of the design system.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Product Design, and Engineering to balance flexibility, consistency, scalability, and business needs.

Requirements

  • 4–7 years of professional product design experience, including significant hands-on experience with design systems.
  • Proven track record of building, scaling, or evolving a design system within a digital product environment.
  • Strong expertise in component-based design, reusable interaction patterns, and scalable design practices.
  • Advanced proficiency with Figma and modern design system workflows.
  • Strong understanding of how design system components and patterns translate into production code.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering closely with engineers and resolving tradeoffs between flexibility, consistency, maintainability, and scalability.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools, with genuine curiosity about their potential to improve product design and design system workflows.
  • Excellent visual design, interaction design, communication, collaboration, and systems-thinking skills.
  • Ability to think strategically while remaining highly hands-on in design execution.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating meaningful contributions to design systems and scalable product experiences.
  • Experience in fintech, ecommerce, B2B software, or other complex digital product environments is a plus.
  • Comfortable working independently, navigating ambiguity, and influencing cross-functional stakeholders.

Benefits

  • 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity, with potential conversion to a full-time position based on mutual fit and business needs.
  • Contract rate of $95 per hour.
  • Opportunity to shape the foundation of a large-scale product experience and influence design standards across the organization.
  • High-impact collaboration with Product Design, Engineering, and Product Management teams.
  • Hands-on exposure to AI-enabled design workflows and emerging approaches to design system automation.
  • Opportunity to modernize legacy experiences and improve consistency, accessibility, and usability across the product.
  • Significant ownership and influence over the evolution and adoption of a company-wide design system.
  • Environment that values strategic thinking, experimentation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
