Job Description

Role Overview

Dempsey is looking for a capable, motivated individual to join our Customer Care & Service Delivery team.

This is an entry-level role designed for someone who may have limited direct Customer Service experience but demonstrates strong learning ability, good judgment, attention to detail, and the potential to grow quickly in a business environment.

The role will initially focus on supporting the Customer Service team with essential operational activities that keep orders, customers and internal processes moving efficiently. These include invoicing, month-end support, customer communications, order follow-up, reporting and other service-delivery activities that are highly important and often time-intensive.

The intention is for this role to develop into a full Customer Service Representative position in our Food Division within approximately 12 months, based on performance and readiness.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service & Operational Support

  • Support day-to-day Customer Service operations and help ensure customer orders move through the process accurately and efficiently.
  • Complete invoicing and related order-processing activities.
  • Support month-end order and invoicing requirements, including follow-up on outstanding items.
  • Prepare and send routine customer communications, including delay notices, shipment updates and requests for information.
  • Monitor open items and follow up with internal teams to help keep orders moving.
  • Maintain accurate customer, order and delivery information within Dempsey systems.
  • Assist with operational reports, trackers, documentation and recurring Customer Service activities.
  • Provide additional support during periods of high volume, special projects or changing business needs.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Work closely with Customer Service, Supply Chain, Warehousing, Pricing and Sales to resolve routine order and customer requirements.
  • Learn how inventory, pricing, purchasing, warehousing and transportation impact customer orders.
  • Recognize when information is missing or unclear and proactively obtain the information required to move work forward.
  • Support process improvements that reduce manual effort and improve service consistency.

Career Development

This role is intended to be a starting point, not a permanent administrative position.

As the successful candidate develops their knowledge and confidence, responsibilities will progressively expand to include:

  • Independent customer order entry and management.
  • Resolution of routine customer and order issues.
  • Coordination of customer requirements across internal teams.
  • Increasing ownership of customer relationships and account activity.
  • Ultimately, management of a portfolio of Food Division customer accounts as a fully functioning Customer Service Representative.

Progression will be based on demonstrated capability, independence, business understanding and performance.

Qualifications

  • College diploma, university degree or certificate in Business, Communications, Supply Chain, Operations or a related discipline required. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Some previous part-time/seasonal work experience in retail, manufacturing, distribution, hospitality, customer service or another operational environment is considered an asset.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office; proficient with Excel and Outlook. Familiarity with business systems is an asset.
  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication in English.
  • Work Authorization: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada on an ongoing basis. Dempsey is unable to provide immigration or work permit sponsorship for this position, now or in the future.

What We’re Looking For

We are less focused on years of experience and more interested in someone who shows strong potential.

The ideal candidate is:

  • A quick learner who can understand and retain new processes.
  • Organized and comfortable working with detailed, time-sensitive information.
  • Naturally curious and willing to ask thoughtful questions.
  • Able to follow processes while gradually developing independent judgment.
  • Comfortable taking ownership of assigned work and seeing it through.
  • Reliable, responsive, and attentive to detail.
  • Comfortable working across multiple priorities and teams.
  • Customer-minded and able to understand how behind-the-scenes work affects the customer experience.
  • Motivated to learn, take on increasing responsibility, and build a career in Customer Service and Operations.
  • Must be a strong relationship builder who connects naturally with customers, communicates confidently, and earns trust through responsive, thoughtful service.

What Success Looks Like

Initially:
Become reliable and increasingly independent in invoicing, customer communications, order follow-up, and core Customer Service support activities.

As capability develops:
Take on more complex order-management responsibilities and direct customer interaction.

Within approximately 12 months:

Be ready to transition into a full Customer Service Representative role supporting a portfolio of Dempsey Food customers.
