Job Description
Huna Totem Corporation is an Alaska Native corporation with over 50 years in tourism, product development, and government contracting. Since opening Icy Strait Point in 2004, we have welcomed millions of cruise travelers to Alaska, and we have recently expanded to Klawock and Whittier. Formed under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971, HTC represents more than 1850 Alaska Native shareholders with ties to Glacier Bay and the community of Hoonah, Alaska.
POSITION SUMMARY
We are looking for a versatile, self starting leader to drive marketing and public relations for Huna Totem's direct to consumer businesses including Hoonah Travel Adventures, Icy Strait Adventures, and Portage Glacier Cruises, oversee marketing and communications for HunaTek, and lead internal and shareholder communications. This role works closely with Huna Totem's Director of Enterprise and Destination Marketing.
LOCATION AND SCHEDULE
This is a remote position with required travel, including media fam trips and other business events. This is a full time, exempt position. Availability for nights and weekends is required as business needs dictate, including Town Halls, events, media engagements, and time sensitive deadlines.
REPORTING LINE
This position reports to the Chief Marketing Officer.
COMPENSATION
Salary DOE. This position is eligible to participate in HTC's annual incentive compensation program with a target incentive of 15 percent of annual base salary.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Serve as the Marketing, Communications, and Public Relations lead for Hoonah Travel Adventures, Icy Strait Adventures, Portage Glacier Cruises, and any additional direct to consumer businesses
- Develop marketing and communication plans, materials, and messaging tailored to each business's audience and goals
- Manage media relations and press opportunities for each consumer business
- Partner with leadership across these business lines to ensure consistent brand voice and effective promotion
- Drive leads and bookings across all these businesses through targeted marketing campaigns and initiatives
- Oversee HunaTek's Marketing and Communications efforts, working closely with leadership to identify opportunities that communicate the company's value and capabilities
- Develop and execute marketing materials, communications, and messaging tailored to the government contracting space
- Manage public relations and media opportunities relevant to the government contracting space
- Partner closely with HunaTek leadership to translate business priorities into effective communications and marketing initiatives
- Develop robust internal and shareholder communication plans to keep employees and shareholders informed, engaged, and connected to company news and culture
- Lead shareholder communications, partnering with the Shareholder Relations team for themes and content
- Own the development and distribution of the company's annual report and monthly newsletter, from content planning through final production
- Plan and execute company Town Halls and events including messaging, materials, and logistics
- Work in close collaboration with the Director of Enterprise and Destination Marketing to ensure consistent brand voice and strategic alignment across the enterprise
- Coordinate with team members on shared initiatives, campaigns, and messaging that span multiple business units
WHAT YOU BRING
- 10 plus years of experience in marketing, communications, or a related field, ideally spanning both internal and external work
- Collaborative leadership and a proven self starter mindset, comfortable operating with ambiguity
- A work style that thrives in a fluid, fast changing environment
- Strong process and timeline discipline, with attention to detail
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to guide cross functional work and influence without direct authority
- Exceptional relationship building skills, with a track record of establishing trust and collaboration across diverse teams
- Very strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone across audiences including employees, shareholders, customers, government stakeholders, and media
- Experience managing media relations or public relations
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects across different business lines
- Comfort working independently in a remote environment while staying closely connected to business lines and teams
- Experience in or willingness to learn the government contracting communications landscape
- Genuine interest in tourism, hospitality, or destination marketing
- Alaska Native Corporation, tribal, or Indigenous owned business experience is a plus
