Since our founding in 1974, we have presented more than 700 exhibitions and offered thousands of classes, providing instruction at every level. Our new integrated center on the Lower East Side reunites our school and museum in one space to become the cultural anchor of Essex Crossing.
Position Summary
The Youth Programs Liaison (YPL) supports the successful delivery of ICP's youth education programs by helping create welcoming, organized, and engaging learning environments for young people. Working closely with Youth Programs staff, teaching artists, and participants, the YPL provides instructional, administrative, and operational support across a variety of programs, including Teen Foto Fridays, in-school residencies, Teen Academy, workshops, public programs, and seasonal youth courses.
Assignments vary throughout the year based on programming needs and staff availability. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with young people, has an interest in photography education, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced learning environment.
Position Schedule
Youth Programs Liaisons support programming throughout the year with varying schedules. Staff may participate in some or all programs depending on availability.
Preferred availability includes:
Academic Year
- Fridays, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Saturdays and/or Sundays, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Summer
- Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Required attendance at annual orientation, staff trainings, and scheduled team meetings.
Requirements:Youth Program Support
- Support Teen Foto Fridays, Teen Academy, workshops, residencies, and seasonal youth programming.
- Welcome students and assist with participant check-in and check-out.
- Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support during classes and workshops.
- Assist teaching artists with classroom management and student engagement.
- Accompany students during field trips, photo walks, and off-site learning experiences.
Program Operations
- Prepare classrooms, studios, and learning spaces before programs.
- Coordinate with Visitor Experience, Facilities, and Equipment staff to ensure spaces are ready for programming.
- Sign photography equipment and supplies in and out as needed.
- Assist with darkroom preparation, including test strips, paper management, and studio organization.
- Clean, organize, and secure materials following each program.
- Support classroom technology and basic photography equipment troubleshooting.
Administrative Support
- Track attendance and assist with student communications.
- Document programs through photography as assigned.
- Scan, organize, edit, and upload student work and program documentation.
- Complete program summaries and administrative follow-up after assigned programs.
- Support registration, preparation, and wrap-up activities for youth programs.
Community Engagement
- Represent ICP at school visits, community outreach events, recruitment activities, and public programs.
- Serve as a welcoming ambassador for ICP's Youth Programs.
- Build positive relationships with students, families, educators, and community partners.
Requirements
Education Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience Qualifications
- At least one year of experience working with youth in schools, museums, camps, classrooms, workshops, or similar educational settings.
- Experience supporting educational or public programs preferred.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends based on program schedules.
- Experience providing administrative or operational support in an educational or nonprofit setting preferred.
Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, or Certifications Required:
- General knowledge of digital and/or analog photography.
- Experience using DSLR and mirrorless cameras preferred.
- Experience with film developing and darkroom printing preferred.
- Basic proficiency with Mac operating systems and Google Workspace required.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, preferred.

Compensation and Benefits
- Pay rate: $22.00 per hour.
- Part-time employees may be eligible for certain benefits in accordance with ICP policies and applicable law.
