Position Summary

The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for generating new business and growing long-term relationships with residential and commercial customers throughout Connecticut and surrounding markets. This position is primarily field-based, spending the majority of each week meeting with prospective and existing customers.

The primary focus will be:

  • Closet companies
  • Bath and kitchen showrooms
  • Remodeling companies
  • Cabinet dealers
  • Interior designers
  • Contractors
  • Builders

The representative will promote The Edge's and Connecticut Carpentry Group’s capabilities in:

  • Custom closets
  • Vanity tops
  • Countertops (Quartz, Granite, Solid Surface, etc.)
  • Millwork
  • Specialty fabrication
  • Additional interior finishing products

The goal is to become a trusted resource for customers while consistently creating new opportunities and increasing revenue.

Primary Responsibilities

Business Development (70%)

  • Prospect new customers daily
  • Schedule and conduct in-person sales meetings
  • Visit existing customers on a regular schedule
  • Introduce The Edge's products and capabilities
  • Deliver brochures, samples, and marketing materials
  • Identify upcoming projects before bid stage
  • Develop relationships with decision makers
  • Generate qualified sales opportunities
  • Attend networking events and industry functions
  • Maintain an organized sales territory
  • Setup and host lunch and learns, as well as shop tours

Customer Relationship Management (20%)

  • Build long-term customer relationships
  • Conduct routine customer check-ins
  • Resolve customer concerns quickly
  • Coordinate introductions between customers and estimating/project management
  • Follow up on completed jobs
  • Request referrals and testimonials
  • Keep CRM updated with customer activity

Sales Support (10%)

  • Work with estimating to prepare pricing
  • Assist with project handoffs
  • Gather project information and drawings
  • Coordinate sample deliveries
  • Help identify production opportunities
  • Monitor customer satisfaction

Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of outside sales experience (building products or construction preferred)
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to travel throughout Connecticut and neighboring states
  • Self-motivated and organized
  • Comfortable using CRM software
  • Valid driver's license with reliable transportation
  • Ability to read plans and understand construction terminology is preferred

The representative will primarily serve:

Travel is expected 4–5 days per week, with most work performed in the field.

They are comfortable managing a sales territory independently, identifying new opportunities, and serving as the face of The Edge and Connecticut Carpentry Group in the marketplace.
