Director, Agentic AI and Clinical Trial Platforms

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Agentic AI and Clinical Trial Platforms based in Canada.

This is a senior leadership opportunity focused on shaping the next generation of AI-enabled clinical trial platforms. You will lead a multidisciplinary organization spanning AI engineering, data science, software engineering, and platform engineering. The role combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic ownership of cloud-based AI and agentic systems. You will translate clinical, product, and business needs into scalable, secure, production-ready capabilities. Your work will help accelerate clinical research workflows, improve data quality, and enable smarter decision-making across clinical studies. You will partner closely with executive, technical, clinical, regulatory, and commercial stakeholders in a highly collaborative environment. This is an opportunity to have significant impact at the intersection of AI, healthcare technology, and clinical research.

Accountabilities
  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary Agentic AI organization, including AI engineers, data scientists, software engineers, and platform engineers, while establishing a culture of technical excellence, accountability, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Define the strategy, architecture, and development roadmap for an AI Agent platform supporting reusable agents, intelligent automation, human-in-the-loop workflows, and orchestration across products, services, data, and enterprise systems.
  • Oversee the development of multimodal AI capabilities spanning text, clinical outcomes data, audio, sensor information, and other clinical-trial data sources.
  • Partner with product, clinical, regulatory, technology, and commercial teams to identify high-impact AI opportunities and translate them into clear roadmaps, production capabilities, and measurable outcomes.
  • Drive measurable improvements in adoption, workflow efficiency, quality, operational performance, and customer value through the application of agentic AI.
  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable cloud-based AI services using AWS SageMaker and related AWS AI/ML technologies.
  • Establish and maintain best practices across AI development, model and agent evaluation, orchestration, MLOps/LLMOps, data governance, monitoring, validation, observability, security, and responsible AI.
  • Ensure AI platforms meet enterprise standards for scalability, security, compliance, reliability, and clinical-trial quality and regulatory expectations.
  • Act as a senior technical and strategic advisor to executive leadership, contributing to the AI vision, clinical-trial transformation agenda, operating model, investment priorities, and broader technology strategy.
  • Lead complex initiatives from concept through production deployment, balancing innovation with delivery timelines, risk management, compliance, and business impact.
  • Mentor and develop technical leaders and team members while promoting continuous learning and high standards across the organization.
Requirements
  • Significant experience leading AI, machine learning, data science, or advanced analytics teams within technology-driven organizations.
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, deploying, and operating cloud-based AI/ML platforms and services, preferably within AWS environments.
  • Practical expertise with AWS SageMaker and related cloud-native services for model development, deployment, monitoring, and automation.
  • Proven experience designing and deploying generative AI and agentic AI systems, including LLMs, tool use, retrieval, agent orchestration, evaluation, observability, and production-grade architectures.
  • Experience developing multimodal AI solutions using both structured and unstructured data.
  • Strong software engineering and platform architecture expertise, including APIs, scalable services, security, DevOps/MLOps, and enterprise cloud infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical programs from initial concept and strategy through successful production implementation.
  • Strong ability to translate clinical, customer, product, and business requirements into AI strategies, technical roadmaps, and investment priorities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to influence executives, technical teams, customers, and cross-functional partners.
  • Ability to balance experimentation and innovation with practical execution, regulatory requirements, security, risk, and measurable business outcomes.
  • Experience in life sciences, clinical trials, regulated healthcare technology, or another highly regulated, data-intensive environment is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with regulatory considerations, validation practices, privacy, and security requirements is an advantage.
  • Experience delivering AI-enabled SaaS products or enterprise platforms at scale is preferred.
  • An advanced degree in computer science, engineering, data science, AI/ML, biomedical informatics, or a related discipline is preferred.
Benefits
  • Full-time, remote opportunity available across Canada.
  • Opportunity to lead a high-impact AI organization at the intersection of artificial intelligence, healthcare technology, and clinical research.
  • Significant strategic influence over the development of next-generation agentic AI and clinical-trial platforms.
  • Collaboration with executive leaders and multidisciplinary teams across technology, product, clinical, regulatory, and commercial functions.
  • Opportunity to work on advanced generative AI, multimodal AI, cloud platforms, and production-scale agentic systems.
  • Professional growth through leadership, innovation, and exposure to complex enterprise and regulated technology environments.
  • Inclusive workplace committed to equal opportunity and consideration of qualified candidates.
  • Meaningful opportunity to contribute to technology that supports the development of life-changing therapies and improved clinical evidence.
