Per Diem hours -

Education:

Graduate Degree in Theology and/or counseling. Professional training in Pastoral Care. Clinical pastoral education in Health Care is preferred.

Certification/Licensure: None

Experience:

Three years of experience in pastoral care is preferred.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

Please note that an asterisk indicates all essential functions (*)

*Provides assessment of resident/patient/client/family needs for pastoral care.

*Based on this assessment provides Pastoral Counseling as needed.

*Serves as a resource for bereavement and spiritual counseling to all hospice residents/clients/families.

*Develops a plan of care based upon the assessment of needs.

*Serves as a resource for staff on relevant religious issues and rituals.

*Completes spiritual assessment on all new admissions.

*Coordinates weekly religious services and memorial services.

*Serves as a member of the McLean Hospice Interdisciplinary Team as Coordinator of Pastoral Care.

*Provides both formal and informal education sessions to staff, residents and members of the community.

*Fosters an ecumenical spirit while always addressing specific denominational needs of residents/clients or families.

*Maintains proper records and documents visits.

*Maintains statistical records on utilization of pastoral services for Hospice Program etc.

*Actively participates in the work of Community Services by serving on committees, promoting the mission and values of McLean, contributing to the increase of knowledge and/or theory of nursing, and maintaining professional development.

*Meets annual contact hours required for professional development.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Typical Physical Demands: Requires ability to walk up and down stairs. Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal limits. Requires ability to travel to and from cases including the operation of a motor vehicle. Requires use of office equipment such as computers, telephones, fax machines and copy machines.

Typical Working Conditions: Work is performed in facilities, private homes, and an office environment. Contact with staff, clients, families, physicians, police, clergy, ambulance crews, pharmacists, vendors, volunteers, and students. May be required to work with uncooperative and combative residents. Exposure to communicable diseases,

EMPLOYEMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Ability to develop and maintain supportive relationships with patients, families, staff and hospice volunteers. Ability to identify and meet the pastoral needs of resents/clients/families. Ability to support staff on issues surrounding care, patient support and bereavement. Knowledge of Hospice concepts of care. Knowledge of denominational procedures and rituals to facilitate pastoral care.
