Located in Big Sky, Montana, Lone Mountain Ranch is a historic guest ranch situated on 148 acres in the heart of the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem. About the Role
The Wrangler at Lone Mountain Ranch plays an important role in creating memorable guest experiences in the Montana landscape. This hands-on position combines horsemanship, hospitality, guest safety, and outdoor adventure while working closely with both guests and the Ranch horse herd each day.
Wranglers lead trail rides for guests of varying experience levels, care for horses and equipment, and help maintain the overall operation of the Horse Program. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about horses, enjoys working outdoors, values teamwork, and takes pride in creating a safe, welcoming, and authentic guest experience.
What You’ll Do- Lead safe, engaging, and memorable trail rides for guests of all riding abilities
- Provide guests with basic horsemanship instruction, safety guidance, and local knowledge during rides
- Care for and groom horses daily, including saddling, feeding, and monitoring horse health
- Assist with maintaining barns, tack rooms, fences, gates, and equestrian facilities
- Monitor trail and weather conditions to help ensure safe riding experiences
- Inspect and maintain tack and riding equipment to ensure safety and readiness
- Help create a welcoming, professional, and hospitality-driven environment for guests
- Work closely with the Horse Program team to support daily ranch operations and horse training activities
- Respond calmly and professionally to changing conditions, guest needs, or emergencies
- Minimum of 5 years of horseback riding, trail riding, and basic horse care experience
- Strong understanding of horse behavior, safety, and horsemanship practices
- Previous experience guiding trail rides or working in a guest-facing outdoor environment preferred
- Friendly, professional communication skills and a strong hospitality mindset
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment
- Experience driving trucks, tractors, and hauling livestock preferred
- Experience working with green-broke horses preferred
- CPR and First Aid certification required
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and spend extended periods on horseback
