Senior Deployable Communications and Information Systems Future Technologies SME
Location: Norfolk, Virginia
Work Arrangement: Full-time, on-site
Travel: Up to 30 days annually
Clearance: ACTIVE SECRET CLEARANCE FROM U.S. OR NATO MEMBER NATION REQUIRED

The Opportunity
Ironclad Defense Works is seeking a Senior Deployable Communications and Information Systems (DCIS) Future Technologies Subject Matter Expert to support NATO Allied Command Transformation in Norfolk, Virginia. This position will advise the DCIS Program Director on emerging technologies, modernization opportunities, technical risks, and future capability development for NATO deployable communications and information systems.
The successful candidate will assess current and future technologies, identify capability gaps, evaluate integration and interoperability considerations, and develop technical recommendations supporting modernization of NATO DCIS. The role requires a technically versatile professional with experience spanning enterprise or tactical CIS, emerging technologies, capability development, technical analysis, and multinational military environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise the DCIS Program Director on emerging and future technologies relevant to deployable CIS.
  • Assess current NATO DCIS capabilities and identify technical and operational capability gaps.
  • Develop technical recommendations supporting capability modernization initiatives.
  • Participate in DCIS architecture reviews and strategic capability-development planning.
  • Evaluate commercial and government-developed technologies for potential operational deployment.
  • Produce technical evaluation reports and deliver technical briefings to program stakeholders.
  • Assess the integration of emerging technologies into existing DCIS architectures.
  • Evaluate interoperability with legacy systems, Next Generation DCIS, NATO Federated Mission Networking, Mission Networks, and Enterprise CIS.
  • Support operational testing and evaluation activities.
  • Review post-exercise findings and assess identified capability gaps for potential corrective actions.
  • Conduct technical risk assessments and recommend mitigations for identified vulnerabilities.
  • Support DCIS workshops, technical meetings, and development of program-management products.
  • Communicate analyzed and decision-ready technical information to affected stakeholders.
  • Promote best practices for DCIS and C3 Enterprise knowledge and information management.
  • Provide direct technical support to the DCIS Program Director and collaborate with other DCIS program personnel.

Required Qualifications
  • University degree in computer science, information technology, computer engineering, electrical engineering, telecommunications, or a closely related discipline.
  • Substantial relevant experience may be considered in place of the degree when accompanied by MSP, PRINCE2, or PMI certification.
  • At least three years of experience supporting enterprise or tactical CIS.
  • At least three years of demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: cloud computing, network automation, enterprise networking, tactical networking, routing and switching, or virtualization.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting one or more of the following: satellite communications, cybersecurity, zero trust, or AI-enabled network management.
  • Demonstrated subject-matter expertise in deployable CIS, military Signals, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least three years of experience supporting capability development of CIS or related systems.
  • At least three years of experience integrating emerging technologies.
  • At least three years of experience conducting technical analysis, documenting findings, and delivering technical briefings.
  • At least three years of experience working within NATO or another multinational military environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience supporting NATO Allied Command Transformation, Allied Command Operations, NCIA, or another NATO command or agency.
  • Experience with NATO Deployable CIS, Mission Networks, or Federated Mission Networking.
  • Experience evaluating or integrating next-generation networking technologies into operational military environments.
  • Strong technical background in areas such as cloud architecture, SDN/network automation, tactical networking, virtualization, cybersecurity, zero trust, or SATCOM.
  • Experience assessing AI-enabled network-management technologies.
  • Experience conducting technology assessments, capability gap analyses, or alternatives analyses.
  • Experience supporting operational test and evaluation activities.
  • Knowledge of NATO C3 architecture and capability-development processes.
  • Experience briefing technical recommendations to senior military, government, or multinational stakeholders.

Clearance
This position requires an active National SECRET (or higher) security clearance from the U.S. or a NATO member nation. Applicants who do not possess the clearance specified above cannot be considered at this time.

Compensation
Compensation for this position ranges from $135,000 - $165,000 annually. Final salary will be based on factors such as experience, education, skills, qualifications, location, contract requirements, and overall affordability.
