Responsibilities

The adjunct faculty member’s role is to facilitate effective learning in the classroom and/or clinical setting for Kettering College Division of Nursing students.

Didactic Instruction: Adjunct Faculty teaching a nursing course are responsible for effective instruction of students, organization of course learning materials in a manner that facilitates student learning, and student evaluation, and communication of student progress and grades in a timely fashion.

Clinical Instruction: Adjunct Faculty teaching in the clinical setting is responsible for effective instruction of students in accordance with the intended course outcomes, communication with staff at the clinical site, selection of appropriately leveled student learning experiences, supervision of students and/or preceptor, student evaluation and communication of student progress and grades in a timely fashion.

Job Requirements:

• Master’s degree required. Must hold an earned BSN from an approved and accredited institution and nursing program. If the bachelor’s degree is not in nursing, then the master’s degree or doctorate must be in nursing. If the bachelor’s degree is in nursing, the master’s degree may be, but is not required to be in nursing.
• Doctorate preferred. Teaching experience preferred.
Clinical Instruction:Education:
• A minimum of BSN is required. A master’s degree is preferred.
Required Licenses[Ohio, United States] Registered Nurse
ADRMS Registered in one or more of the following specialties:AbdomenVascularCardiacObstetrics
At least 2 years of experience in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse required; Teaching experience preferred.
Job Requirements:
1. Provision of a course syllabus in accordance with the College’s Syllabus Standardization format.
2. Progression of learning outcomes and objectives in organized and logical fashion toward fulfillment of course outcomes.
3. Design and implementation of teaching strategies/learning opportunities in accordance with thecurriculum framework, which help students fulfill the course outcomes.
4. Supervision of guest lecturers, such that course outcomes can be fulfilled.
5. Assistance and/or referral to students who need additional support for their learning
6. Knowledge of and adherence to nursing curriculum plan.
7. Timely feedback to students regarding assignments, quizzes, exams, and other learning activities.
8. Communication and submission of student grades in accordance with department and College policies and procedures.
9. Completing and posting an electronic course report within one week of the end of the semester for each course taught.
Clinical Instruction:
1. Plans students’ clinical experiences and evaluates students’ performance in alignment with expected curriculum outcomes.
2. Implementation of clinical objectives or outcomes within the framework of the course in which the student is enrolled.
3. Communication of clinical objectives or outcomes to the course coordinator, student, staff at the clinical site, and or preceptor, if utilized.
4. Assignment of clinical experiences based on course objectives, the student’s level of ability, and the student’s learning needs.
5. Provision for orientation of students to the clinical site.
6. Supervision of students for the purpose of safety to the patient and clinical environment and effective learning for the student.
7. Evaluation of students’ experience, achievement, and progress in relation to the clinical objectives or outcomes.
8. Assurance of faculty/student ratio for direct patient care experiences of no more than 1:10 (1:12 for precepted classes).
9. Collaboration with and orientation of preceptor to ensure the preceptor is competent and prepared for the role.
• Facilitates communication between the preceptor, student, and instructor.
• Provides the preceptor with orientation information regarding the program of study and the roles of the student, preceptor, and instructor.
• Is available to the preceptor and student for assistance and clarification through rounds, phone, or pager.
• Functions as a resource for any issues surrounding the professional development of the student.
• Objectively and subjectively evaluates the student’s performance, incorporating feedback from the preceptor.
Both Didactic and Clinical Instruction:
1. Supports the mission, vision, and values of the College in all professional relationships.
2. Is a strong contributor to all appropriate teams, exhibiting Christian collegiality in team relationships.
3. Meets professional obligations, such as office hours, deadlines, submission of required documents.
4. Is knowledgeable of the nursing curriculum and effectively uses evidence-based clinical teaching approaches.
5. Designs workflow to facilitate service to students.
6. Meets professional obligations, such as clinical hours, student appointments, adjunct faculty workshops and updates, and deadlines.
7. Professionally helps students even when their anger, distress, or other conditions make learning difficult.
8. Communicates skillfully and compassionately with others.
9. Is a strong contributor to all appropriate teams, exhibiting Christian collegiality in team relationships.
10. Participates regularly in appropriate meetings and faculty development activities, including those sponsored by the College, the Medical Center, and professional organizations.
11. Anticipates change, adapts smoothly to change, and when appropriate, effects change
12. Exhibits a positive response to constructive criticism from leadership.
13. Knows and adheres to college policies and procedures.
14. Uses college resources efficiently.
15. Completes all mandatory education and/or clinical competencies.
16. Routinely evaluates own learning needs and exhibits continuously improving outcomes.
17. Stays professionally current.
