What You Will Do

  • The Associate Director of Student Health & Wellbeing provides operational and strategic leadership for Counseling Services and Health Promotion within the Cougar Care Center and serves as a member of the Student Health & Wellbeing leadership team. Reporting to the Executive Director of Student Health & Wellbeing and working collaboratively with Counseling Services and Health Services leadership, this position supports an integrated, prevention-focused model of student wellbeing designed to strengthen student success, retention, safety, and overall campus wellbeing.
  • The position oversees operations across Counseling Services and Health Promotion, including access and scheduling systems, workflow coordination, prevention and early intervention initiatives, outreach and student engagement efforts, campus partnerships, personnel and operational oversight, and coordinated support strategies designed to improve the delivery, accessibility, and effectiveness of student support services.
  • The Associate Director develops and maintains operational systems, care coordination processes, assessment and reporting structures, campus-wide wellbeing initiatives, and operational improvement strategies that support timely access to services, workforce sustainability, continuous quality improvement, and institutional effectiveness across Cougar Care. The role also supports budget and resource management, grant initiatives, compliance with applicable state requirements, and alignment with national best practice frameworks related to student mental health, prevention, and student wellbeing.
  • Students benefit through improved access to coordinated mental health and wellbeing services, enhanced prevention and early intervention resources, stronger continuity of support, and increased opportunities for engagement and connection. Counseling Services, Health Promotion staff, and campus partners benefit from improved operational efficiency, clearer workflows, stronger collaboration, and enhanced coordination of services. The university benefits through improved student retention and success outcomes, strengthened compliance efforts, reduced downstream crisis burden, and a more coordinated and sustainable campus-wide approach to student wellbeing.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Counseling, Social Work, Higher Education Administration, Public Health, Student Affairs, Psychology, or a closely related field required; doctoral degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 57 years of progressively responsible professional experience in college student mental health, counseling center administration, health promotion, student affairs, healthcare operations, or a related higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing clinical or student support service operations, including scheduling systems, workflow coordination, access management, personnel supervision, budget or resource oversight, program administration, and operational planning.
  • Knowledge of integrated behavioral health and prevention-focused models of care, including early intervention, student wellbeing frameworks, and coordinated systems of support within higher education environments.
  • Familiarity with national best practice frameworks and standards related to student mental health and wellbeing, including the JED Campus framework, American College Health Association (ACHA) guidelines, and NASPA-informed practices.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, project management, communication, and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple priorities, lead operational improvement efforts, support workforce sustainability, and implement strategic initiatives within a fast-paced higher education environment.
  • Experience utilizing data analysis, assessment, and reporting tools to evaluate program effectiveness, service utilization, operational efficiency, and student engagement outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively with students, clinicians, faculty, staff, and external partners.
Preferred Qualification

Professional license or certification in a behavioral health or related field (e.g., LCPC, LCSW, LPC, CHES, or equivalent) preferred, depending on institutional needs and role responsibilities.
