The Seamstress at Palm House plays an essential role in maintaining the professional appearance and brand standards of the property by ensuring all employee uniforms are properly fitted, repaired, altered, and maintained. This position supports multiple departments by providing timely, high-quality tailoring services that align with Palm House’s luxury image and Forbes Five-Star expectations.
The ideal candidate is skilled, detail-oriented, and efficient, with experience in garment alterations and repairs. This role requires flexibility, precision, and a commitment to craftsmanship in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
Key Responsibilities
Uniform Alterations & Repairs
- Perform uniform alterations, tailoring, hemming, resizing, and repairs for employees across all departments.
- Adjust uniforms to ensure proper fit, comfort, and professional appearance.
- Repair damaged uniforms, including stitching, seams, buttons, zippers, and hems.
- Evaluate uniforms for wear and tear and recommend repairs or replacements as needed.
Quality Control & Brand Standards
- Ensure all uniforms meet Palm House’s grooming, presentation, and Forbes Five-Star standards.
- Maintain consistency in uniform appearance across departments.
- Handle garments with care to preserve fabric quality and longevity.
Inventory & Organization
- Assist with tracking uniform inventory, including issued, altered, and repaired garments.
- Maintain an organized and clean sewing and storage area.
- Communicate uniform needs or shortages to HR or Operations leadership.
Collaboration & Communication
- Coordinate with Human Resources, department managers, and employees to schedule fittings and alterations.
- Provide timely turnaround on uniform requests to support onboarding and daily operations.
- Communicate clearly regarding alteration timelines and special requests.
Safety & Compliance
- Operate sewing equipment safely and maintain tools in good working condition.
- Follow workplace safety guidelines and proper handling of equipment and materials.
Qualifications
- Prior experience as a seamstress, tailor, or in garment alterations required.
- Strong knowledge of sewing techniques, fabrics, and garment construction.
- Ability to perform accurate measurements and fittings.
- High attention to detail and craftsmanship.
- Ability to manage time efficiently and meet deadlines.
- Professional demeanor and strong communication skills.
- Experience in hospitality, uniforms, or luxury environments preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while sewing or fitting garments.
- Ability to lift and move materials or garments up to 25 pounds.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and fine motor hand movements.
- Good vision and manual dexterity required for detailed sewing work.
