We’re reimagining specialty insurance by leveraging automation and data to underwrite complex risks efficiently. As we scale into additional states, we are strengthening our compliance infrastructure to ensure operational excellence and continuous regulatory alignment.

Position Overview

Delos Insurance Solutions is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Personal Lines Property Underwriter to support our growing underwriting operations. This role is responsible for evaluating new business and renewal submissions, assessing property risks, managing ongoing underwriting activities, and maintaining strong relationships with appointed agents.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in personal lines property insurance, sound underwriting judgment, and the ability to balance profitable risk selection with business growth. This individual will also contribute to underwriting process improvements, guideline development, and operational efficiency in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

Underwriting & Risk Assessment

  • Review, evaluate, and underwrite new business and renewal submissions for homeowners and other residential property lines.
  • Manage daily underwriting activities, including inspection reviews, endorsements, and system-generated tasks.
  • Assess property risk characteristics in accordance with established underwriting guidelines and company risk appetite.
  • Identify and select profitable risks while minimizing adverse selection.
  • Meet or exceed established production and quality standards.
  • Exercise assigned underwriting authority to approve minor exceptions, including one class deviation or one guideline exception, where permitted.
  • Escalate exceptions outside assigned authority to a Senior Underwriter for approval.

Agent Communication & Collaboration

  • Serve as a primary underwriting resource for appointed agents, answering questions, clarifying guidelines, and supporting quality submissions.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and professional communication to agents, distribution partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Partner with the Distribution team to support agent training and underwriting education as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to improve underwriting efficiency, processes, and overall service quality.

Underwriting Guidelines & Process Improvement

  • Provide feedback on underwriting guidelines based on market conditions, emerging risks, and competitive insights.
  • Support the development and implementation of underwriting referral and authority protocols.
  • Contribute to underwriting training materials, workflow enhancements, and process improvements.
  • Complete underwriting projects of low to moderate complexity as assigned by the Head of Underwriting.
Required Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of property underwriting or related personal lines insurance experience, preferably involving homeowners, dwelling fire, or residential property.
  • Strong understanding of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and risk selection, or relevant experience in claims, insurance customer service, or related functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate risks, apply underwriting guidelines, and make sound decisions within assigned authority.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-service mindset.
  • Experience using underwriting platforms, exposure assessment tools, or business intelligence dashboards.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and sound judgment in balancing risk and business objectives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and Adobe.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance license in any state; California license strongly preferred.
  • Professional insurance designations such as CPCU, ARM, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with California property underwriting practices and guidelines.
  • Experience evaluating catastrophe (CAT)-exposed risks, including wildfire, hurricane, and other natural hazards.
  • Experience within Managing General Agency (MGA), Excess & Surplus (E&S), or non-admitted insurance environments.
  • Exposure to commercial property underwriting.
  • Interest in leveraging technology, automation, and data to improve underwriting processes.
  • Understanding of how climate trends and emerging risks impact the insurance industry.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive salary plus equity stock options.
  • Remote-first work environment with flexibility to work from anywhere in the United States.
  • Unlimited PTO, including sick leave, and company-paid holidays, subject to applicable policies and laws.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, with Delos covering 75% of applicable premiums for employees and dependents.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan.
