Job Description

Reports To: Shift Supervisor FLSA Status: Hourly Non-Exempt

Summary: The Shift Lead promotes Safety, Quality, and Production of the shift. Leads team members in “on-the-job” training and maintaining accurate work procedures and practices. The Shift Lead is also expected to be a model for consistency, work ethic, attitude, behavior, work flexibility, and to give reliable feedback to the Shift Supervisor for work-related issues in the plant. The Shift Lead can work without supervision and communicate effectively with team members.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Treat all FCI co-workers, customers, vendors, & guests with courtesy and respect, consistently exhibiting the company’s core values.
  • Ensure safe work practices and standardized work instructions are adhered to by themselves as well as their team
  • Proactively communicate any work or process-related issues to the Supervisor or active coverage
  • Report all equipment or safety-related issues to the Supervisor. Assist in resolution or planning for repairs. Follow-up to ensure proper reporting is done in Safety 101 or Asset Essentials.
  • Advises the Supervisor in a timely fashion when materials/supply issues arise
  • Work directly with the Quality department to assist in the resolution of quality concerns past (8D resolution) and present. Contact the Supervisor when in question.
  • Assist the Supervisor/lead operators in the Tier structure and actions to drive results at the proper levels
  • Mentor and coach Lean culture throughout their area of responsibility to create and support initiatives driving positive change.
  • Capable of effectively training in all production positions that pertain to their areas of responsibility
  • Follow and train others in written work procedures and practices. Document/report discrepancies to update procedures
  • Capable of consulting team members regarding good or bad job performance through consistent feedback.
  • Ensure company policies are adhered to in areas of responsibility.
  • Promote lean thinking and culture through continuous improvement and teamwork. Actively seek improvement opportunities that directly affect FCI’s vision and core values. Be a change agent.
  • Understands production schedule and communication path needed to update if circumstances deem necessary.
  • Substitute for Supervisor when applicable.
  • Assist Lead Operators with troubleshooting issues. Strong focus on teaching and developing effective problem-solving skills throughout their direct team.
  • Ensure LPAs are performed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all Operators are trained in doing and closing out OPMs. Monitor for on-time completion.
  • Capable of directing Tier I and Tier II meetings.
  • Conduct weekly 5S audits and develop action plans to drive safety/organization/standardization/visual factory initiatives.
  • Assist Lead operators with staffing questions/concerns/training initiatives.

Preferred Aptitudes/Eligibility Considerations:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 4 years of paper conversion experience preferred
  • Ability to listen, relate, and communicate with people on a professional level
  • Effective problem-solving skills are displayed by the ability to use proper tools to decipher all information, develop problem statements, uncover root causes, and make educated decisions based on the results of these tools.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written
  • Positive attitude
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Ability to speak and understand English

Physical Considerations:

  • Ability to push, pull, or lift up to 60 pounds
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, lift, and move arms and hands freely
  • Climb stairs and navigate around industrial equipment
  • Ability to stand for most of a 10-hour shift

Work Environment:

  • Manufacturing environment with varying noise levels
  • Hearing protection, eye protection, and safety toe shoes are required
  • Minimum 40 hours/week. Overtime required based on work demands/commitments.
