Job Description

Description:

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Urgent Care Registered Nurse is a vital member of the Urgent Care team, serving as both a clinical collaborator in patient care decisions and a leader in managing patient flow and volume. In this role, the nurse enhances patient care through telephone and in-person triage, leadership of medical response situations, and implementation of nursing interventions such as medication administration, wound care, and splinting.

This position is well suited for an individual who values teamwork while maintaining a high degree of clinical autonomy. Our collaborative environment fosters mutual respect among providers, nurses, and support staff, with nursing playing a key role in daily operations and patient outcomes. Nurses in this role have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of individual patients while serving a diverse community, including many underserved populations.

Our medical response workflow utilizes a nurse-driven triage model to rapidly assess patients with higher-acuity medical concerns and determine the most appropriate level of care. The Urgent Care Registered Nurse leads this process by directing patient flow, coordinating team-based care when needed, facilitating prompt evaluation within the Urgent Care setting, or initiating transfer to the emergency department for patients experiencing life-threatening conditions. This critical role ensures patients receive timely, appropriate, and effective care based on their clinical needs.

WHO WE ARE

South Boston Community Health Center provides accessible, high-quality care to all patients, regardless of status or ability to pay. We emphasize primary and preventive care and work to meet the healthcare needs of the community with respect, compassion, and clinical expertise.

Our work is guided by respect, commitment, diversity, competence, education, research, and cost-effectiveness. The Registration team supports this mission by helping each patient begin their visit with accurate information, clear communication, and attentive service.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Triage patients on arrival, assess acuity, and prioritize care appropriately.
  • Perform clinical duties, including taking vital signs, administering medications, wound care, immunizations, point-of-care testing, EKGs, and assisting with procedures.
  • Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and promptly in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Support providers with exams, treatments, and procedures as needed.
  • Provide patient education and discharge instructions, reinforcing treatment plans and follow-up recommendations.
  • Recognize and respond to urgent or emergent patient conditions, escalating to the provider or emergency services as necessary.
  • Maintain infection control and safety standards in compliance with OSHA, CDC, and internal protocols.
  • Lead the medical response team to enable timely triage of higher-acuity medical situations and excellent patient outcomes.
  • Support a team-based approach to care by collaborating with medical assistants, providers, behavioral health, and other staff.
