Job Description
ABOUT FRONTIER DOOR & CABINET
Frontier Door & Cabinet, Inc. is a premier provider of interior and exterior doors, frames, door hardware, and high-quality cabinets for the commercial construction industry. With more than 25 years of experience, we are a leader in commercial and multi-family residential doors, cabinets, and hardware, with facilities in Tacoma, WA; El Paso, TX; and Phoenix, AZ. Our commitment to excellence, transparency, integrity, and respect guides everything we do. We offer a supportive work environment where personal growth and continuous improvement are encouraged. Join us in our mission to deliver top-notch products and customer service from concept to completion.POSITION SUMMARYThe Receiver 3 / Quality Assurance Specialist is the senior receiving and inbound-quality position at our El Paso facility and the last line of defense between the dock and production. This role owns every inbound receipt from the moment it reaches the dock until it is inspected, verified, received in the system, labeled, located, and staged or handed off. It carries the authority to accept, partially receive, hold, quarantine, or reject material that does not meet specification. The position covers the full range of material that moves through FDC: commercial and residential doors, frames, and door hardware; cabinet and casework components and cabinet hardware; sheet goods and laminates; and lumber and millwork. Much of this material is project-specific, finish-sensitive, and easy to confuse. A wrong hinge finish, a missing fire label, a mis-sized frame, an incorrect slide length, or a damaged sheet of melamine can stop production just as quickly as a missing door.We are looking for a proven, bilingual (English/Spanish) professional with deep receiving and quality control experience, strong product knowledge, and the judgment to make the right call without being told. The Receiver 3 / QA Specialist sets the receiving and inspection standard at El Paso, trains others to it, and keeps every department informed so that no one has to guess whether material arrived, where it went, or whether it is usable. This position requires grit, urgency, precision, communication, and accountability.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESReceiving & Dock Operations- Own the El Paso receiving dock: prioritize inbound deliveries, unload safely, and move material from truck to a verified, labeled location without delay.Verify every shipment against the bill of lading, packing slip, and purchase order before signing; count pieces and cartons; note shortages and visible damage on the carrier’s delivery receipt and photograph all exceptions.Receive vendor shipments, inter-branch transfers, and customer returns, and route each through the correct process.Identify urgent and production-critical material and stage it directly to the Door Shop, Cabinet Production, or Shipping as required.Keep project material together by job, sales order, or work order; never allow job-specific material to be absorbed into general stock.Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely around trucks, docks, racking, and active production traffic.
- Perform detailed inbound inspection on all material families using defined acceptance criteria, measuring tools, and approved samples (see Precision Verification Standards below).Develop, document, and maintain receiving inspection standards and checklists by material family: what to inspect, how much to inspect, and what constitutes a reject.Perform first-article inspection on new vendors, new items, and items with a history of quality issues; increase inspection on vendors with recurring defects.Run the hold and quarantine process: tag, segregate, and record nonconforming material in a designated hold area so it cannot reach production or stock until it is dispositioned.Work with Purchasing and production leads to disposition held material (use as is, rework, return to vendor, or scrap) and document every decision.Confirm that fire-rated doors and frames carry intact, legible certification labels and that rated product has not been damaged or altered, consistent with NFPA 80; escalate any missing or compromised label immediately.Track defects and discrepancies by vendor, item, and cause; supply the data behind vendor scorecards and corrective action requests.Perform root cause analysis on receiving and quality errors, including internal errors, and put corrective actions in place that prevent recurrence.Audit staged material before release to production, transfer, or shipment when directed.
- Document every shortage, overage, wrong item, wrong finish, and damaged item with photos, quantities, and PO and item references in the discrepancy log the same day it is found.Communicate discrepancies immediately to Purchasing and affected departments, and escalate per RMA protocol.Initiate and support freight claims for visible and concealed damage within carrier timelines.Follow every discrepancy to closure (replacement received, credit issued, or material dispositioned). No open item is left unexplained.
- Complete receiving transactions in DMSI Agility and Clearly accurately and promptly: item, quantity, unit of measure, location, and project allocation.Apply labels, barcodes, and project identification to every received item, and reconcile vendor labeling to FDC item numbers.Assign and record the correct storage or staging location, and keep material status current: received, staged, on hold, ready for production, or ready for transfer.Keep physical material and system records aligned at all times so material can be found quickly after it leaves the dock.
- Lead and support cycle counts, physical inventories, and location audits; research variances and resolve them at the root.Perform second-party verification and audit the receiving accuracy of the team; report results and trends.Produce receiving and quality reporting (discrepancy volume, vendor defects, open holds, aged receipts) in Excel or other tools as requested.
- Serve as the subject-matter expert and lead hand for receiving and inbound quality at El Paso.Train, mentor, and audit receivers in English and Spanish on product identification, inspection standards, system transactions, labeling, and safety.Write and maintain receiving and QC standard operating procedures and visual aids, such as hardware finish references, label examples, and defect photo boards.Lead 5S in the receiving, inspection, and hold areas, and drive process improvements that reduce errors and dock-to-stock time.Bring discrepancy and error trends to leadership with recommended fixes.
- What arrived, and what is short, damaged, or incorrect. What is received, what is staged, and what is on hold. What is ready for production and what is ready for transfer. What still needs resolution, who owns it, and when it is expected.
- Receive material fully, receive it partially, or hold it for review.Request second-party verification on high-risk or high-value receipts.Refuse, reject, or quarantine damaged or nonconforming material.Stage urgent material directly to production.Keep material together by project and separate questionable material from stock.Escalate a discrepancy and communicate risk before it becomes a production issue.
- Protect finish-sensitive, moisture-sensitive, and heat-sensitive material, including laminates, melamine, sheet goods, lumber, hardware, and doors, from sun, heat, wind-blown dust, and rain.Never leave material exposed on the dock or in the yard; use covered staging and move material quickly but safely in poor conditions.Report immediately when material arrives wet, damaged, or exposed, understanding that exposure damage creates finish failures, warranty risk, and customer-facing problems.Keep receiving areas clean, safe, and organized, and follow all FDC safety rules.Other duties as assigned.
