About Westervelt Ecological Services
Westervelt Ecological Services (WES) specializes in the restoration and conservation of wetlands, streams, and habitats for listed species through the development of conservation and mitigation banks. These banks provide environmental mitigation and habitat services to landowners, businesses, government agencies, and land trusts throughout California, Colorado, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, and South Carolina. Position Overview
Looking to build your accounting skills in a professional setting? As an Accounting Intern, you'll help process invoices, prepare financial reports, and support project managers with financial data while learning the day-to-day operations of a busy accounting team. Every day offers the opportunity to strengthen your Excel, data entry, and accounting knowledge through meaningful, hands-on experience. This is a part-time role (15-20 hours per week) that will last through the current school year with potential to go to full time hours for the summer of 2027.
A Day in the Life
No two days are exactly the same as an Accounting Intern. One day you may be assisting with customer invoicing and supplier payments, and the next you could be compiling financial reports or supporting month-end close activities. You'll gain valuable exposure to accounting operations while contributing to a collaborative team that helps drive business success.
Key Responsibilities and Outcomes
This role will:
- Coordinate, collect, validate, and enter a variety of finance and accounting information.
- Prepare reports and other financial forms.
- Compile project financial data as needed for project managers.
- Assist with preparing customer invoices
- Assist with the processing and coding of supplier invoices and payment requests
- Assist with various tasks during period close
- Provide general admin support to finance team as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Education, Experience and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- 1-2 years of similar accounting and/or data entry experience. Or equivalent college level coursework and education.
- Workday experience ideal, but not required
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and meet timelines and deliverables
- The ability to work hours as assigned
- Intermediate data entry or computer skills such as Excel and other MS software
- Ability to work 15-20 hours per week in person in the Sacramento office. Schedule can be flexible to work around classes.
