REX Lumber is looking for a Saw Shop Technician to join our team in Dothan. This is a hands-on position for someone who takes pride in precision, craftsmanship, and keeping production running efficiently.

Reports To: Saw Shop Supervisor

What You'll Do

• Sharpen, level, tension, align, and maintain circular and edger saws according to mill specifications.
• Assist with grinding, honing, and setting saw teeth for optimal cutting performance.
• Maintain saws and tooling supporting multiple mill operations.
• Prepare saws for daily shipment to the appropriate mill.
• Monitor saw inventory and ensure production has the tooling needed to keep moving.
• Operate saw-shop equipment including grinders, levelers, tensioning machines, measuring equipment, and material-handling fixtures.
• Use precision measuring tools to ensure saws meet required specifications.
• Maintain saw-shop equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
• Assist with preventive maintenance and troubleshooting related to cutting tools and equipment.
• Inspect saws for cracks, wear, improper alignment, stress points, and other conditions that could affect performance.
• Ensure saws are properly prepared and maintained to support accurate cuts, lumber quality, and production efficiency.
• Communicate potential tooling issues before they become production problems.
• Respond to saw-related issues and provide support on the production floor when needed.

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced industrial environment.
• Ability to safely lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand, bend, reach, and work around industrial machinery for extended periods.

Preferred

Experience with any of the following is a plus:

• Industrial machinery
• Saw maintenance or sharpening
• Mechanical maintenance
• Hand and power tools
• Precision measuring equipment
• Grinding equipment
• Preventive maintenance
• Sawmill or manufacturing operations
• Mechanical troubleshooting

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

• Frequently lift and carry 15–50 pounds.
• Occasionally team lift up to 75 pounds.
• Bend, twist, stoop, reach, and stand throughout the workday.
• Operate forklifts and material handling equipment safely.
• Work in a fast-paced industrial manufacturing environment.
