JOB DESCRIPTION
• Job Title: Parts Runner / Scale Operator
• Department: Coffee County Landfill
JOB SUMMARY
This role acts as a primary parts runner, picking up and delivering equipment components, while maintaining landfill shop inventories. Additionally, the employee serves as a critical backup to the Scale Operator, processing inbound/outbound commercial and public vehicles. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Landfill Manager, requiring independent judgment, reliability, and excellent communication with county staff, vendors, and the public.
• Parts Running & Logistics: Travels to off-site parts suppliers, vendors, and outside repair shops to pick up and shuttle critical landfill equipment, shop tools, or materials.
• Inventory Control: Controls and counts the landfill parts inventory. Coordinates with shop maintenance personnel to audit, stock, and log parts.
• Scale Operations: Serves as a certified backup Scale Operator. Operates electronic, computerized scales using specialized billing software to calculate weights and fees.
• Customer Service & Cashiering: Greets landfill users, monitors waste compliance, counts back change, and handles end-of-day cash drawer reconciliations.
• Clerical Support: Performs general clerical work, processes purchase orders, handles basic data entry, maintains file systems, and answers the telephone.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Office & Inventory Skills: Experience with basic office procedures, counting inventory, database logging, and rudimentary Excel systems.
• Public Interaction: Comfort working in a fast-paced scale house environment and maintaining professional relationships with vendors and customers.
• Strong basic math skills to reconcile cash drawers, compute weight margins, and process commercial load charges.
• Valid Driver’s License
• Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen.
