Position Overview

The Assistant DC Manager serves as a key operational leader supporting the Distribution Center Manager (DCM) in overseeing daily warehouse operations. This role helps ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of all distribution center activities while delivering exceptional service to both internal and external customers.

The ADCM partners closely with department supervisors to coordinate daily operations, optimize labor utilization, monitor performance metrics, and develop high-performing teams. This individual also serves as the acting Distribution Center Manager in the DCM's absence, ensuring uninterrupted operational leadership.

What You'll Do

Facility & Operational Leadership

  • Support the Distribution Center Manager in leading daily warehouse operations.
  • Ensure operational priorities are executed efficiently and safely.
  • Help drive department performance while meeting customer service expectations.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Warehouse Operations

  • Oversee daily receiving, inventory control, order fulfillment, packing, shipping, and logistics activities.
  • Balance labor resources based on operational demands and changing priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Support warehouse supervisors and team leads to achieve operational goals.

Performance & KPI Management

  • Monitor operational performance metrics including:
    • Order Accuracy
    • On-Time Shipping
    • Productivity
    • Labor Utilization
    • Inventory Accuracy
  • Analyze operational data and recommend process improvements.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Coach, mentor, and develop supervisors, team leads, and warehouse associates.
  • Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and employee training.
  • Partner with Human Resources on employee engagement and performance management.
  • Foster a positive workplace focused on communication, accountability, and respect.

Continuous Improvement

  • Support Lean and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflow, productivity, and warehouse utilization.
  • Participate in operational improvement projects and technology implementations.

Safety & Facility Management

  • Promote a culture where safety is everyone's responsibility.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and facility walkthroughs.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and company safety policies.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas utilizing 5S principles.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Supply Chain, Inventory Control, Purchasing, HR, Safety, and IT teams.
  • Participate in planning meetings and company initiatives.
  • Represent the Distribution Center during leadership meetings as needed.
Requirements:

Qualifications

Required Experience

  • 5–7 years of progressive warehouse, distribution, or fulfillment experience
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience supervising warehouse operations
  • Experience working in fast-paced, high-volume distribution environments

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, or related field preferred
  • Equivalent experience will be considered
  • APICS, Lean, Six Sigma, OSHA, or other industry certifications are a plus

Reporting Structure

Reports directly to the Distribution Center Manager.

Provides leadership and oversight for:

  • Distribution Center Supervisors
  • Team Leads
  • Warehouse Associates

  • Supply Chain
  • Inventory Control
  • Human Resources
  • Safety
  • Information Technology
  • Operations Leadership

Physical Requirements

This position requires regular presence throughout a 300,000+ square foot distribution center.

Candidates should be able to:

  • Walk and stand for extended periods (8–10 hours per shift)
  • Climb stairs and move throughout the facility
  • Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Bend, stoop, twist, and reach as necessary
  • Work in varying warehouse temperatures
  • Operate or work around warehouse equipment safely
  • Read reports and communicate effectively in a fast-paced warehouse environment

Travel

Approximately 5% travel may be required between DMA distribution centers for operational support, training, and company events.
