Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

- We offer a 4-10s schedule for this position, either Sunday to Wednesday, or Wednesday to Saturday schedule. Will be scheduled with a counterpart Senior Supervisor covering the other schedule.

POSITION OVERVIEWThe Senior Training Specialist – Operations leads the development, coordination, and delivery of training and development programs across Pinto Valley operational departments, including Mining, Processing, Tailings & Water, Facilities, HSE, Metallurgy, and Laboratory Operations. This role ensures a safe, skilled, and compliant workforce through competency-based training systems and structured learning programs.
The position partners with operational leaders and subject matter experts to identify training needs, develop curricula, and evaluate training effectiveness. It also provides supervision to the operations training team and supports continuous improvement of learning systems and tools across site operations.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIESStakeholder Engagement & Operational Alignment:- Lead working relationships with Mining, Processing, Tailings & Water, Facilities, HSE, Metallurgy, and Laboratory teams to support effective training identification and delivery.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with key departmental stakeholders.
- Facilitate regular forums to identify, prioritize, and address departmental training requirements.
- Challenge the status quo and identify opportunities to improve learning practices, systems, and processes.
Training Needs Analysis & Competency Development:
- Conduct baseline training needs analyses to identify critical training requirements across operational areas.
- Develop and maintain competency models aligned with operational roles and training requirements.
- Design and maintain training curricula aligned with competency frameworks and operational needs.
- Review training plans and competency profiles on a regular basis to ensure relevance and effectiveness.
Instructional Design & Program Development:
- Design and develop learning and development programs using instructional design methodologies such as ADDIE.
- Create competency-based assessment tools to support training validation and certification.
- Ensure adherence to document control standards for all training materials and assessment tools.
- Develop and maintain performance support materials to support on-the-job learning.
- Ensure effective use of the Learning Management System (LMS) and associated digital learning tools.
Training Evaluation & Continuous Improvement:
- Develop tools and processes to evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and learning outcomes.
- Monitor and measure the impact of training on operational performance and business outcomes.
- Participate in internal audits of the learning and development system in accordance with site audit plans.
- Provide reporting on training effectiveness and recommendations for improvement to leadership.
Team Leadership & Training Governance:
- Supervise and support the work of Training Specialists and Training Coordinators.
- Provide coaching, direction, and performance management for the operations training team.
- Ensure compliance with the Training Management Standard and LMS procedures.
- Support consistent application of company policies, procedures, and MSHA safety requirements.
- Advise leadership on training, technical, and procedural improvements to support site-wide consistency and compliance.
- Report on training outcomes and business impact to stakeholders and leadership as required.
• Diploma or tertiary certification in Vocational Education, Technical Training, or related field
• Certificate in Workplace Training and Assessment
• Minimum 5 years of experience in operational technical training
• Minimum 3 years of experience supervising a training or functional team
• Strong understanding of instructional design and competency-based training systems
• Ability to facilitate training sessions, workshops, and stakeholder meetings
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
• Intermediate Excel skills (formulas, charts, graphs, and tables)
• Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS) and supporting end usersPreferred• Experience conducting training needs analysis and competency framework development
• Experience measuring training effectiveness and business impact
• Experience designing e-learning or blended learning solutions
