The City of Claremont Community Services Department is seeking an experienced and hands-on Maintenance Supervisor to lead maintenance operations and help maintain the buildings, streets, facilities, infrastructure, and public spaces that make our community a great place to live, work, and visit.

The Maintenance Supervisor will plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the work of City staff and contractors engaged in the maintenance, repair, and improvements of City buildings, facilities, and infrastructure.
Maintenance Supervisor, will:
- Oversee maintenance and repair of City buildings, facilities, streets, signs, sewers, storm drains, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, streetlights, and related infrastructure.
- Coordinate contractors, consultants, and vendors and ensure work meets City standards and contract requirements.
- Respond to citizen requests and concerns and help ensure issues are resolved effectively.
- Promote and enforce safe work practices, procedures, and regulations.
- Assist with budgets, purchasing, inventory, equipment replacement, and expenditure monitoring.
- Prepare work schedules, project reports, inspection records, and maintenance documentation.
- Help develop operational goals, policies, procedures, and standards.
- Coordinate maintenance-related activities for seasonal and special events.
- Serve as a liaison with other City departments, divisions, and outside agencies.
The Maintenance Supervisor will supervise lower-level staff and provide technical direction. Work hours are generally Monday through Thursday (38-hour work week) between 6:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The Maintenance Supervisor will attend Commission and Committee meetings in the evenings, and other evening/weekend meetings or special events as required.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Strong supervisory and team-building skills.
- Extensive knowledge of facilities, infrastructure, equipment, and field operations.
- Can take ownership and follow projects through from planning to completion
- Contract administration and project management experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A commitment to safety, customer service, and operational excellence.
- The ability to inspire staff and foster high performance.
Experience:
Four or more years of increasingly responsible maintenance, landscape, and/or contract administration work which included at least two years of responsible supervisory experience.
Education:
Two years of vocational or college-level training in business management, public works, facilities maintenance, construction management, or a related field.
Desirable:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Experience with an asset management or automated work order system.
License or Certificate:
Required at time of hire:
Valid California Class C Drivers’ License and good driver record are required.
Required within first year of employment:
Valid Class B California driver's license and keep it in good standing

The Community Services Department is responsible for managing and coordinating the work effort of three operating divisions: Maintenance, Solid Waste, and Motor Fleet. To deliver the high-quality services necessary to fulfill the needs of the City Council and the citizens, the department has an annual operating budget of $17.2 million and 38 full-time employees across all divisions.
The Solid Waste Division is tasked with providing residential and commercial sanitation services, including trash, organic, and recycling collection. The Maintenance Division oversees all sewer, street, and sidewalk maintenance; public facilities maintenance; and maintenance of the City’s parks and urban forest. Lastly, the Motor Fleet Division is responsible for maintaining the City's fleet and fueling stations.
Community Services has an annual work plan that includes implementing applicable sustainability actions listed in the Sustainable City, and increasing sustainability efforts throughout City facilities and programs. Among other plans, Community Services is responsible for maintaining the landscape and facilities surrounding the iconic Claremont Village.
