Your role in the mission:

The Manufacturing Technician will play a critical role in the fabrication, assembly, and testing of HTS magnet systems and related hardware. This individual will work from engineering drawings, work instructions, and manufacturing procedures to build highly complex assemblies that support the advancement of fusion energy technology.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, quality-focused, and enjoys working in an innovative environment where new manufacturing processes and technologies are being developed

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing & Assembly

• Perform fabrication, assembly, integration, and testing activities for HTS magnet components and subsystems.
• Follow detailed work instructions, engineering drawings, specifications, and standard operating procedures.
• Assemble mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical components to precise quality standards.
• Support winding, conductor preparation, insulation application, joining, and magnet assembly operations.
• Use hand tools, power tools, precision measuring equipment, and specialized manufacturing tooling.

Testing & Inspection

• Conduct in-process inspections and verification activities.
• Perform basic mechanical, electrical, and dimensional measurements.
• Support functional, acceptance, and qualification testing of components and assemblies.
• Document test results and manufacturing data accurately.
• Identify and report product defects, process deviations, or quality concerns.

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure all work meets established quality requirements and configuration controls.
• Maintain accurate manufacturing records and build documentation.
• Adhere to cleanliness, traceability, and product handling requirements.
• Support corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Participate in root cause investigations and problem-solving activities.

Safety & Operational Excellence

• Follow all environmental, health, and safety procedures.
• Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives to improve efficiency and productivity.
• Assist with equipment setup, maintenance, and material handling activities.
• Contribute to a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability.

What you’ll need:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Technical certificate, associate degree, or military technical training preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in manufacturing, assembly, electronics, aerospace, energy, semiconductor, or other precision production environments.
• Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, assembly instructions, and technical documentation.
• Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, and measurement equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
• Ability to document work accurately and maintain production records.
• Strong problem-solving and teamwork skills.
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with superconducting magnets, cryogenic systems, vacuum systems, precision assemblies, or advanced manufacturing technologies.
• Background in fusion energy, aerospace, semiconductor, defense, national laboratory, or R&D environments.
• Experience with electrical assembly, cable routing, soldering, or wiring.
• Familiarity with cleanroom or controlled manufacturing environments.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Experience with ERP, MES, or manufacturing documentation systems.
