Job Summary:

Performs general clerical duties by preparing, compiling and maintaining records on a nursing unit.

Education:

Position requires a high school diploma or GED or 0- 6 months equivalent combination of education and experience in related area.

Registration/Certification/Licensure:

Experience:
-
1-2 years related experience preferred.

Other Requirements:
-
Maintains unit-specific and hospital competencies, mandatory learning, and any clinical certifications required in accordance with the Staff Education and Training policy GA-057 and/or any other department requirements.

Successful completion of Unit Secretary Orientation
-
Answers phones, relays /dispatches messages to other staff &/or departments as appropriate.
-
Manages central desk area of nursing unit – directs staff, physicians and customers as needed.
-
Assists in answering patient call system and contacts appropriate staff person.
-
Maintains up-to date unit census.
-
Orders supplies under the direction of the unit director.
-
Maintains patient records, including preparing and compiling records, filing and copying as needed. Prepares admission charts and breaks down discharge charts in accordance with Medical Record protocol
