General Summary
The Relationship Banker I (RB I) serves as a trusted financial resource for customers by building relationships, identifying needs, and delivering exceptional service. This role is responsible for opening and servicing personal and business deposit accounts, assisting customers with banking products and services, processing credit product applications, and making referrals to appropriate business partners. The RB I plays a key role in growing branch relationships and supporting loan and deposit goals while partnering with branch leadership to achieve business objectives. As needed, this position also supports teller operations to ensure a seamless customer experience. All responsibilities are performed in accordance with Middletown Valley Bank's commitment to service excellence, professionalism, and regulatory compliance.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain a thorough understanding of deposit products, ancillary services, fee structures, customer benefits, interest rates, and product eligibility requirements.
- Open and close deposit accounts while ensuring compliance with applicable procedures, documentation requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Develop and deepen customer relationships through needs-based conversations, account reviews, referrals, and recommendations that align customers with appropriate banking products and services.
- Provide ongoing account servicing and support to customers by processing account maintenance requests and other banking-related services in accordance with Bank policies and procedures.
- Process and support a variety of customer banking services, applications, and operational transactions in accordance with Bank policies and procedures.
- Partner with branch leadership and teller staff to identify referral opportunities, enhance customer engagement, and support branch growth objectives.
- Provide feedback to the Branch Manager to support the development and coaching of teller staff..
- Support teller operations as needed, including processing customer transactions, balancing cash, and adhering to established operational procedures and controls.
- Maintain the confidentiality of customer and Bank information while safeguarding customer trust and supporting the security and integrity of Bank operations.
- Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness and the bank's compliance with all regulatory requirements, e.g. Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act, etc.
- Support and participate in community activities and initiatives.
- Other duties necessary to meet business objectives.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Associate degree or equivalent required, along with two (2) or more years of banking experience, preferably in branch operations, account opening, or relationship banking. In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of education, banking experience, and/or military service may be considered.
- Working knowledge of deposit products, account opening procedures, and branch operations preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; experience with Jack Henry Xperience Teller and OnBoard platforms preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with customers and coworkers.
- Demonstrated ability to identify customer needs, recommend appropriate solutions, and deliver exceptional service.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work, manage multiple responsibilities, and maintain attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment while also exercising sound independent judgment.
- Flexibility to work branch hours, including evenings and Saturdays, as needed.

Work Environment
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, see, use hands to type, carry, handle, and feel objects, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds or more.
- The job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
