Tax Manager - Real Estate - Charlotte, NC
Who: An experienced tax professional with 5+ years of public accounting experience and strong expertise in real estate taxation.
What: Oversee technical review and compliance for real estate clients while leading the tax team, resolving complex tax issues, and managing multiple engagements.
When: Full-time opportunity available immediately.

Position Overview:
The Tax Manager in the Real Estate Practice oversees the preparation and technical review of complex tax engagements for real estate businesses, including passthrough entities and their owners. This position includes researching complex issues, reviewing legal documents, managing engagement economics, leading and mentoring tax staff, and supporting business development efforts. The role plays a pivotal part in team development, client service excellence, and practice expansion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop strong client relationships with leading real estate companies.
- Provide proactive consulting on complex and emerging tax matters.
- Communicate engagement progress, issues, and resolutions clearly to customers.
- Analyze industry trends and create strategic solutions for client challenges.
- Collaborate across service lines to grow business opportunities.
- Review and develop workpapers supporting allocations, basis adjustments, and tax transactions.
- Review operating agreements, LOIs, purchase agreements, and other tax-related legal documents.
- Manage engagement economics, including billing and collection activities.
- Continually expand technical expertise and support team education.
- Coach and mentor team members, providing feedback and development opportunities year-round.
- Build a strong professional network to attract new business and expand services.
- Represent the firm within the business community and relevant professional organizations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Law; Master’s in Tax/LLM preferred.
- 5+ years of recent public accounting experience managing real estate tax engagements.
- Significant experience with entity and individual taxation, especially partnerships.
- Ability to analyze flow-through entity distribution and profit/loss provisions in operating agreements.
- EA license or CPA certification required.
- Strong project and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and networking abilities.
- Proven success in managing and growing strong client relationships.
- Experience with tax software and technology tools.
