Columbus House opened its doors in 1982 to provide services for men and women at least 18 years of age. Our goals quickly broadened from the mere provision of food and shelter and simple survival, to understanding and working toward overcoming the problems which cause people to become homeless.

Purpose
With guidance from the Director of Middlesex and Veteran Services, the Emergency Services Manager provides direct supervision and program management, training and professional development to all Residential Staff at the Wallingford Seasonal Shelter and Warming Center, Shelter and Scatter Site Case Managers and the Resident Service Administrator.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Hire, train, and supervise all residential program staff, providing all necessary oversight and supervision and ensuring consistency and continuity of services rendered
- Coordinate with the Middlesex, Meriden, and Wallingford Coordinated Access Network to accept new eligible clients
- Complete regular house meetings within all Residential Programs
- Complete all required reports and documentation
- Collaborate with other service agencies and work with other Columbus House internal services as appropriate
- Network and collaborate with the Middlesex, Meriden, and Wallingford CAN for all new Emergency Shelter admissions and discharges maintaining strict confidentiality concerning both program applicants and accepted clients at all times
- Attend regularly scheduled supervision, team, shelter or staff meetings as requested
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of two years’ experience in an administrative or management role
- Three or more years of direct care experience
- Demonstrated ability to manage, motivate, teach, multitask and supervise
- A complete knowledge base of all aspects of the delivery of residential services for the homeless population
- Ability to work with diverse populations independently or in groups
- General understanding of crisis intervention, confidentiality, boundaries, universal precautions
- Able to foster a Harm Reduction philosophy within the work environment; strong empathic skills
- Ability to work with improvement teams and foster teamwork
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong computer skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Valid drivers’ license with a good driving history and daily access to an automobile
Supervised by: Director of Veteran Services and Middlesex Emergency Services
Schedule:40 hours per week; Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm
Salary range: $58,656- $60,000
