Description:

The Administrative Medical Assistant is a certified level 1 medical assistant who works full time and shares the responsibility for taking all reasonable steps to ensure a high quality of care is delivered to the residents. This position also shares the responsibility toward creating an environment that individualizes each resident’s care. The Administrative Medical Assistant has administrative responsibility and is held accountable for functions and activities of the nursing staff. These functions and activities should also integrate with the departments in the facility that contribute to resident care. The Administrative Medical Assistant must perform all the duties and responsibilities outlined below using available resources to assist in effectively attaining the highest well-being possible for each resident.

1. Assists the DoN in coordinating, directing, and evaluating the 24-hour operation of nursing.

2. Alternates administrative nursing call with DoN.

3. Performs administrative nursing duties in the absence of the DoN.

4. Assist with the training of staff at Independence Court.

5. Supervises care provided to the residents of IC.

6. Assists surveyors and inspection team.

7. Knowledge of State and Federal regulations related to ALF/RCF.

8. Helps with updating policies and procedures to meet federal and state guidelines.

9. Assists with resident counsel complaints.

10. Assist in the monitoring of duty sheet completion.

11. Assist in the auding of resident’s records for care in completion of all assessments.

12. Performs monthly medication room audits.

13. Perform on-site assessments of possible new admissions as needed.

14. Perform as a CMA as needed.

15. Performs other duties as assigned.

16. Represent Independence Court in a positive and professional manner.

17. Know and practice Resident’s rights.

18. Demonstrate a caring attitude in all interactions with residents.

19. Abide by Independence Health System Personnel Policies and Procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

20. Know and practice emergency policies and procedures.

21. Utilize all safety equipment and precautions as per policies and procedures when transferring or ambulating residents.

22. Assist in the admit, transfer, and discharge of residents.

23. Assist in physician appointments and transportation.

24. Assist in replacing call-ins, as necessary, to meet fire code.

25. Assist with monthly summaries for residents.

26. Take off doctor’s orders. Document and change orders (medications, treatments for skin issues, etc.) that physicians write in resident’s charts and make progress notes in the nursing documentation.

27. Assess residents and report to the physician as needed.

28. Report dietary changes, in writing, to the Dietary Department.

29. Responsible for assuring Resident safety.

Requirements:

1. Good organizational skills, ability to perform multi tasks simultaneously, prioritization skills, flexibility, counseling skills, good problem solving, and action orientated.

2. Must be a certified level 1 medical assistant or licensed professional nurse.

3. Must be at least 18 years of age.

4. Must be able to read, write, and speak fluently in English.

5. Must be able to deal with residents and families in a pleasant and supportive manner and must be able to work effectively with fellow employees.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

1. Must be able to stand, bend, reach, kneel, carry, lift 75-100 lbs., and move intermittently during working hours.

2. To assist residents in a time of emergency must be able to move quickly from one part of the building to another.

3. Must have good physical health with no communicable diseases present.

4. Must be able to demonstrate emotional stability to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

5. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
