About This Position
Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School is seeking an experienced child mental health professional to join our team of school counselors on a part-time basis in the student support services department.
The part-time elementary school counselor works closely with students, teachers, learning specialists, administrators, and parents to understand and meet the needs of all of our learners. A primary responsibility is providing direct services to students with a range of social-emotional and behavioral needs, including individual and small group counseling, larger group social-emotional learning and related classroom lessons.
Counselors offer consultation to teachers and parents around student social-emotional and behavioral needs and supports, facilitate implementation of behavioral strategies and support plans, and take a lead in responding to student mental health crises that may arise during the course of the year.
Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as sophisticated oral and written communication skills are essential in this position. The school counselor will often navigate complex topics and challenges and communicate sensitive information with families about student needs, interventions, and progress on a regular basis. Counselors also regularly collaborate with other professionals, including private therapists, psychiatrists, and other providers.
The part-time school counselor role is a 10 month position. Specific hours to be determined.
A Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or counseling is required. Clinical licensure within the mental health field, or progress toward licensure, is also required. Minimum of 3-5 years post graduate experience. Salary range is commensurate with education, licensure, and level of experience.
