Patient Access Specialist
What You’ll Do
As a Patient Access Specialist, you’ll serve as the first point of contact for patients, helping create a smooth and welcoming experience while supporting critical front-end operations.
• Schedule, reschedule, and cancel patient appointments efficiently and accurately.
• Complete pre-arrival registration by adhering to established registration standards.
• Check patients in and out, ensuring all required information is accurate and up to date.
• Verify and enter patient insurance coverage details with a high level of accuracy.
• Collect applicable self-pay payments and provide clear explanations to patients.
• Manage and resolve assigned work queues (WQs) to support department workflows.
• Handle patient messages (phone and in-person) and route communication through the electronic in-basket system.
• Perform insurance verifications and obtain prior authorizations as needed.
• Provide departmental support while maintaining excellent customer service and professionalism.
What We’re Looking For
• High School diploma or GED required
• 6 months to 1 year of relevant experience preferred
• Additional education in Business or Healthcare (or equivalent experience) preferred
• Experience in a healthcare, medical office, or receptionist setting preferred
• Knowledge of medical terminology, including ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes
• Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office, email, and internet use
• Excellent customer service and communication skills (written and verbal)
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accuracy and productivity in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with patient registration, insurance verification, and health insurance plans preferred
Pay
• $17.00 – $25.25 per hour, based on experience
