Job Overview:
The Advanced Endoscopy Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) serves a critical role in facilitating timely access to advanced endoscopic procedures by expediting referrals from general gastroenterology practices directly to procedural care.
This direct-access model minimizes unnecessary office visits, reduces delays from referral to procedure, and helps maintain the program's competitiveness.
In addition, the APN is responsible for communicating results to referring gastroenterologists and coordinating downstream care when necessary, including referrals to oncology, surgery, and surveillance imaging.

Essential Functions:
The APN must function independently in several key clinical and operational areas, including:
- Conducting intake and reviewing medical histories to ensure patients are appropriate and safe candidates for advanced endoscopic procedures
- Reviewing and interpreting relevant diagnostic tests prior to procedures
- Prescribing medications required for procedural preparation
- Managing peri-procedural medication decisions, including the temporary holding of contraindicated medications
- Placing procedural orders and coordinating scheduling
- Collaborating with other physicians and care teams to optimize patients prior to procedures
- Coordinating downstream care with oncology, surgery, and other specialties as needed
