About This Position

ED Technicican

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for performing direct patient care activities within their scope of practice as directed by WAC 246-841-400. In addition, perform duties under the direction of a Register Nurse or Physician in the Emergency Department.

By maintaining high standards of excellence, a qualified ED Tech will demonstrate the ability to support and further a patient-centered care culture. The ED Technician will demonstrate the core values of WhidbeyHealth, which include working cooperatively with colleagues and projecting a service orientation toward all by supporting and meeting the hospital’s goals for patient satisfaction, Standards of Behavior, and national quality core measures.

PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS includes the following, other duties may be assigned:

  1. Assists nursing staff and other care team members with patient care: receiving patients by ambulance and from triage; assisting with ambulatory patients; setting up and assisting with procedures; obtaining patient vitals signs; dressing or undressing patients; providing treatment supplies when needed; application of sterile dressing; restraint procedures; immobilization of extremities; cast and splint applications; patient transport.
  2. Performs basic patient observation skills and reports significant changes in patient condition to the appropriate team member. Observation of secluded or restrained patients.
  3. Maintain unit supplies by stocking patient rooms and supply areas to meet patient care needs. Assist in keeping patient care areas and equipment clean.
  4. Performs clerical and communication functions to support department operations and patient care.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned once unit specific training and competencies have been approved.
  6. Personal Care skills: A nursing assistant demonstrates basic personal care skills
    1. Assists patient with bathing, oral care, and skin care.
    2. Assists patient with grooming and dressing.
    3. Provides toileting assistance to patient.
    4. Assists patient with eating and hydration.

JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Graduate of a Certified Nursing Assistant Acute Care program.

.Training and Experience

  • Minimum of one year of work experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
  • Prior acute care hospital experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant license in the state of WA required.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required at date of hire.
  • Completion of ED specific competency-based education and assigned HealthStream modules within 90 days of hire.

JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Highest level of education completed, minimum high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of a Certified Nursing Assistant Acute Care program.

Training and Experience

  • Minimum of one year of work experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
  • Prior acute care hospital experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant license in the state of WA required.
