Firestorm is seeking a Vice President of Business Development who will lead and execute Firestorm’s strategic growth initiatives across the Department of War, allied international markets, strategic industry partnerships, and emerging defense innovation ecosystems.

You will serve as a key interface between customers, operators, engineering, product, manufacturing, and executive leadership to ensure Firestorm remains aligned to operational demand signals while building scalable and repeatable business infrastructure. In addition, you will be reporting to the Chief Growth Officer (CGO).

This is not your traditional legacy defense BD position. You must be capable of operating in ambiguity, driving capture execution, influencing product direction, and helping mature the organization as Firestorm transitions from high-growth startup to an enduring defense technology company.

What You Will Do

Strategic Growth Leadership

  • Lead and execute Firestorm’s strategic vision for expanding market presence, securing new business opportunities, and driving long-term company growth.
  • Develop and implement growth strategies aligned with corporate objectives, investor expectations, and operational customer requirements.
  • Shape Firestorm’s market position across:
      • USSOCOM
      • DoW Services
      • GCCs
      • Service innovation organizations
      • Program Executive Offices (PEOs)
      • Intelligence Community
      • Allied partner nations
      • Defense primes and strategic industry partners
  • Identify adjacent markets and emerging mission areas tied to:
      • Contested logistics
      • Expeditionary manufacturing
      • Autonomous systems
      • Counter-UAS
      • Air Launch Effects
      • Tactical edge sustainment
      • Affordable mass and distributed operations

Business Development & Capture Execution
  • Own opportunity pipeline hygiene and drive teamwide discipline in gate tracking, p(Win) accuracy, and alignment between pipeline pursuits and overall company strategy
  • Drive proposal lifecycle by managing B&P resources and headcount.
  • Coordinate with technical and pricing leads to produce compliant, competitive submissions.
  • Identify, qualify, shape, and capture high-value opportunities across defense and national security sectors.
  • Drive capture strategy and bid discipline across all business development pursuits, including but not limited to:
      • SBIRs
      • STRATFI/APFIT opportunities
      • OTAs
      • Programs of Record
      • Congressional appropriations
      • Direct commercial sales
      • Strategic partnerships
  • Develop strategies to accelerate transition from prototype to operational deployment and scalable procurement pathways.
  • Lead recurring pipeline reviews, opportunity collaboration sessions, bid/no-bid reviews, and growth forecasting.

Customer & Operational Alignment
  • Facilitate customer engagement to identify operational capability gaps and align Firestorm solutions to real-world mission requirements.
  • Develop a differentiated understanding of critical customer capability gaps and effectively shape requirements before RFPs are released by building and maintaining trusted relationships across:
      • Senior military leaders
      • Operational units
      • Program managers
      • Acquisition officials
      • Congressional stakeholders
      • Venture and strategic investors
      • Industry teammates and suppliers
  • Serve as the voice of the customer to the rest of the organization by translating operational feedback into actionable business and product priorities.
  • Partner closely with engineering, operations, manufacturing, and product teams to align roadmap priorities with customer demand signals.
  • Partner closely with the Mission Success Team to ensure seamless customer handoff post contract-award
  • Support operational demonstrations, exercises, technology evaluations, and customer fielding efforts.
  • Maintain deep awareness of evolving operational requirements across modern conflict environments and contested logistics challenges.

Partnerships & International Growth
  • Work with the Strategic Partnerships team to develop and maintain strategic relationships with defense primes, emerging technology partners, and allied international stakeholders.
  • Support expansion into allied and partner nation markets, particularly within INDOPACOM and NATO-aligned regions.
  • Structure and manage teaming agreements, reseller strategies, OEM partnerships, and international growth initiatives.
  • Help establish long-term strategic positioning for Firestorm within future defense industrial base ecosystems.

Organizational Scaling & Executive Support
  • Help mature Firestorm’s business development infrastructure, processes, and operational rhythms suitable for a scaling defense company.
  • Drive CRM discipline, pipeline accuracy, capture accountability, and forecast visibility across the organization.
  • Support executive leadership and board-level initiatives including:
      • Strategic planning
      • Investor engagement
      • Growth forecasting
      • Market analysis
      • Mergers & acquisitions support
  • Assist in building scalable BD, capture, and government engagement organizations capable of supporting future company growth.
  • Drive BD hiring and headcount growth by identifying emerging organizational needs in alignment with the growth and direction of pipeline growth
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, national security, or related technical field from an accredited institution.
  • U.S. Citizenship required due to ITAR regulations & the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance
  • 15+ years of experience in defense, aerospace, national security, or dual-use technology business development.
  • 7+ years leading growth, capture and/or strategic business teams.
  • Experience capturing and scaling U.S. Government defense programs.
  • Deep understanding of:
      • DoW acquisition processes
      • Operational customer ecosystems across the Services, including but not limited to the United States Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, SOCOM, etc.
      • Defense innovation pathways
      • Venture-backed technology environments
      • Hardware and software-enabled defense systems
  • Experience influencing both strategic and tactical decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications
Prior military service, particularly within Special Operations, aviation, autonomy, logistics, or operational planning communities.
  • Existing relationships within the Department of War including SOCOM, INDOPACOM, AFSOC, PEOs defense innovation organizations.
  • Direct experience with:
      • Autonomous systems
      • Additive manufacturing
      • Tactical communications
      • Robotics
      • Expeditionary sustainment
      • Counter-UAS ecosystems
  • Experience supporting defense technology companies through Series B growth and scaling phases.
  • Familiarity with M&A activities, strategic partnerships, and international defense market development.
  • MBA or advanced technical degree.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
Work Environment
  • Position is working remotely
  • Travel up 35–50% of the time to customer sites, exercises, and industry events as required
