Summary/Objective:

As a valued member of our team, the Quality Control (QC) Laboratory Technician is responsible for ensuring aggregate and sand products are sampled, tested, documented, and reported in accordance with customer specifications, company quality standards, and applicable industry requirements. This position supports production operations through accurate laboratory testing, quality monitoring, and timely communication of quality concerns to plant management.

Supervisory Responsibilities: No

Essential Functions

• Collect representative aggregate and sand samples from production areas, stockpiles, conveyors, wash plants, and load-out locations.

• Perform laboratory testing including sieve analysis, moisture content testing, fineness modulus calculations, sand equivalent testing, and material cleanliness evaluations.

• Conduct testing in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, Caltrans, customer specifications, and Company procedures.

• Accurately record, calculate, and document all test results and maintain required quality records.

• Monitor product quality throughout production and identify quality trends or specification concerns.

• Communicate testing results and quality issues to the Plant Manager and production personnel.

• Recommend operational adjustments when testing results indicate corrective action may be necessary.

• Verify the effectiveness of plant adjustments through follow-up testing and analysis.

• Operate, maintain, inspect, and monitor laboratory equipment to ensure proper functionality and calibration.

• Maintain laboratory inventory including testing supplies, sample bags, sieves, calibration weights, and related materials.

• Assist with quality audits, product certifications, customer inquiries, and investigations involving quality concerns.

• Maintain organized testing records and prepare daily quality reports.

• Follow all Company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.

• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain safe work practices at all times.

• Travel to Company facilities as needed to support testing and quality control operations.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Non-Essential Duties:

• Review project specifications.

• Support the delivery of concrete at various project locations at various hours.

Core Competencies

• Knowledge of aggregate, sand, and construction materials testing procedures.

• Ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations and interpret testing data.

• Ability to understand and apply ASTM, AASHTO, Caltrans, and customer specifications.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

• Ability to maintain complete and accurate documentation.

• Ability to communicate professionally with management, operations personnel, customers, and regulatory agencies.

• Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

• Strong organizational and time management skills.

• Commitment to maintaining integrity and professionalism in all testing and reporting activities.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm. Working hours may vary. Overtime hours including evening and weekend assignments may be required depending on workload and service needs. Subject to change at anytime.

Travel: Occasional travel within Southern California required.

Minimum Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite applications.

• One year of experience in quality control, construction materials testing, aggregate production, ready-mix concrete, asphalt, or related industry preferred.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Technical training in quality control, materials testing, geology, engineering technology, or a related field.

• Experience performing sieve analysis, moisture testing, fineness modulus calculations, and sand equivalent testing.

• Knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, and Caltrans testing procedures.

• Aggregate, mining, construction materials, or ready-mix industry experience.

The Welder must be able to work quickly and skillfully with the hands. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit, walk, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk or hear. The employee must occasionally life and/or move up to 50 pounds.
