Regional Manager, Residential Mortgage Underwriting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Regional Manager, Residential Mortgage Underwriting based in Canada.

This leadership role sits at the heart of residential mortgage origination, overseeing underwriting and fulfillment performance across an assigned region. You will ensure consistent, high-quality credit decisions while balancing growth objectives with disciplined risk management. Acting as a key link between underwriting, distribution partners, and risk teams, you will help deliver a seamless and efficient mortgage experience for clients and advisors. The role combines operational oversight, credit adjudication leadership, and people management in a fast-moving financial services environment. You will play a critical part in shaping underwriting standards, improving processes, and driving regional performance outcomes. This is a high-impact position suited for a leader who thrives at the intersection of credit risk, operations, and team development.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead regional mortgage underwriting and fulfillment operations, ensuring performance targets for productivity, turnaround time, service quality, and risk standards are consistently achieved.
  • Oversee credit adjudication activities, including review and approval of escalated applications, exceptions, and high-value lending decisions within delegated authority frameworks.
  • Monitor regional performance metrics and market dynamics to identify opportunities for operational improvement and enhanced customer experience.
  • Provide guidance on credit structuring and risk mitigation strategies to strengthen lending decisions and protect portfolio quality.
  • Act as a key liaison between underwriting, fulfillment, distribution partners, and risk stakeholders to ensure alignment and smooth execution of mortgage origination activities.
  • Lead, coach, and develop underwriting and fulfillment teams, fostering accountability, engagement, and continuous professional growth.
  • Drive process improvement and change initiatives that enhance efficiency, consistency, and quality across the mortgage origination lifecycle.
Requirements

This role requires strong expertise in residential mortgage underwriting, credit risk, and financial services operations, combined with proven leadership capability. The ideal candidate is a confident decision-maker who can balance risk discipline with business growth in a regulated environment.

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in financial services, with a strong focus on residential mortgage underwriting, credit adjudication, or lending operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams in underwriting, credit, or mortgage operations environments.
  • Strong understanding of residential mortgage products, credit risk frameworks, and lending policies.
  • Experience working in or with regulated banking environments and familiarity with regional real estate markets (Quebec experience is an asset).
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to assess complex credit scenarios.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical credit concepts into clear guidance for stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage change, drive performance improvement, and lead through operational transformation.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French preferred or required depending on client needs.
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
