Position OverviewThe Human Resources Generalist plays a critical role in supporting firm-wide HR operations and employee experience initiatives. This position serves as a key partner to employees and managers across multiple office locations, providing support in employee relations, performance management, compliance, benefits administration, recruiting, onboarding, and HR operations.
The ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized, solutions-oriented, and capable of balancing strategic priorities with day-to-day HR responsibilities in a fast-paced professional services environment.
This is a hybrid position based in Fairfax, VA or Silver Spring, MD, with occasional travel to firm offices and recruiting events as needed.
Key ResponsibilitiesEmployee Relations & HR Support- Serve as a trusted resource for employees and managers regarding HR policies, procedures, and workplace matters.
- Assist with employee relations concerns, investigations, conflict resolution, and performance-related matters.
- Support performance management processes, including coaching managers on best practices and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Support full-cycle recruitment efforts for legal and business professional positions.
- Coordinate interviews, candidate communications, offer processes, and onboarding activities.
- Partner with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and recruitment strategies.
- Represent the firm at career fairs, networking events, and university recruiting initiatives.
- Assist with benefits administration, employee enrollments, leave administration, and employee questions.
- Maintain employee records and HRIS data integrity.
- Support payroll-related processes and HR reporting as needed.
- Assist with policy updates, handbook administration, audits, and compliance initiatives.
- Support employee engagement programs, recognition initiatives, and firm events.
- Assist with onboarding programs that promote a positive employee experience.
- Collaborate with HR leadership on retention, development, and culture-building initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve HR processes and enhance operational efficiency.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- 3+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a law firm, professional services, or multi-location environment.
- Working knowledge of employee relations, employment law, recruiting, benefits administration, and HR best practices.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS platforms; experience with ADP Workforce Now preferred.
- PHR or SHRM-CP certification is a plus.
