Nurse Supervisor (RN) Acute Med/Surg

Work location: Texas Health Fort Worth, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76104

Work hours: Full Time Day shift , 5 days per week (40 hours per week) and occasional charge shift (12 hrs on weekends, holidays, or inclement weather/crisis situations.)

• Provides Leadership and clinical expertise to support the Acute Med/surg unit (35 bed unit). The Acute Med/Surg Unit cares for patients that are admitted with Acute Med/surg diagnosis such as urology, limb salvage, chronic wounds, GI, Diabetes, respiratory overflow, isolations airborne covid and peripheral vascular conditions. Unit has general remote Tele patients that requires monitoring.

• Focus expectations include staff support, staff development, exceptional patient care outcomes, accountability, career progression, and mentoring nursing students

Here's What You Need

• Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma required; BSN strongly preferred

• Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire

• Current BLS required upon hire

• Current ACLS within 90 days required

• CPI within 90 days required

• Two (2) years' experience as a clinical nurse with previous experience as a charge nurse or similar leadership role (i.e. Charge nurse, committee chair, preceptor) required

• CMSRN preferred

In addition to the required qualifications, a successful Nurse Supervisor

• Must be comfortable with autonomy, critical thinking skills - great communicator/collaborator with physicians, nurses, and staff

• Demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.

• maintain a positive, customer-focused attitude toward patients and staff

• possess a strong work ethic and always display a high level of professionalism and integrity

What You Will Do

• Creates shift assignments, initially and throughout the shift reflecting consideration of the nurse's skill level and patient's need.

• Effectively evaluate the services provided daily to ensure the patient's needs are being addressed to ensure a high quality experience. Conduct daily nurse leader rounds.

• Demonstrates advocacy for patients and staff.

• Responsible for assisting the manager/director with human resource management to include evaluations, coaching, mentoring, recruitment, retention, education, and orientation.

• Works with manager/director to control costs and manage department budget, productivity, and supplies.

• Facilitates patient/nurse assignments based on volume, acuity, and skill mix, and provides coordination of patient care on nursing unit while maintaining productivity standards.

• Facilitates patient flow for the unit.

• Provides continuous constructive feedback and timely performance evaluations to staff and participates in progressive disciplinary action process with Manager/Director and staff.

• Supports retention strategies and objectives and assists with recruiting and hiring of potential staff.

• Fosters an environment to promote patient and family centered care through purposeful hourly rounding, updated care boards, and leader rounds.

• Actively participates in unit based, department, entity and/or system committees and task forces.

• Leads or participates in required meetings.

• Demonstrates effective communication skills with families, patients, physicians and other members of the healthcare team.

• Works in coordination with other staff when unit activity dictates, monitoring patient care and providing direction to staff to promote quality outcomes, coordinates continuous improvement activities for the unit.

• Collaborates with physicians and other members of the healthcare team to promote safe individualized care as well as promoting accountability in enhancing the patient experience.
