Schedule: Full-time, rotating swing shifts
Sigma is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Chemical Tank Farm Operator to join our Logistics team at our chemical manufacturing facility in Georgetown, South Carolina.
This position is responsible for safely receiving, transferring, sampling, storing, loading, and shipping hazardous and non-hazardous bulk materials. The operator will work with tank farms, tanker trucks, pumps, transfer lines, drums, totes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment while maintaining accurate inventory and shipment records. This is a hands-on industrial position that requires strong attention to detail, mechanical ability, safe work practices, and the flexibility to work rotating shifts.
What You Will Do- Receive, sample, transfer, store, stage, and ship hazardous and non-hazardous raw materials, finished products, and waste materials.
- Load and unload chemical tanker trucks and transfer bulk materials between tank farms and production areas.
- Fill drums and totes and perform other product-repackaging activities based on operational needs.
- Verify products, tanks, transfer lines, and mixing instructions before beginning work to prevent contamination, spills, and incorrect transfers.
- Operate forklifts, man lifts, pumps, hoses, valves, transfer systems, yard tractors, and 48- or 53-foot trailers.
- Inspect tanks and equipment and perform routine preventive maintenance on pumps, flanges, valves, piping, and nitrogen systems.
- Collect and properly document product samples according to established procedures.
- Use JDE to review product specifications, scheduled shipments, and inventory status and to record material movements.
- Maintain accurate receiving, transfer, shipment, hazardous-waste, inspection, and inventory records.
- Follow all safety, environmental, hazardous-material, spill-response, ISO, and EFfCI requirements.
- Assist with hazardous-waste storage, inspections, and shipments and respond to unplanned product releases as trained.
- Maintain clean and orderly work areas and assist Raw Materials Warehouse Operators as needed.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience in chemical handling, tank farm operations, bulk-liquid transfers, material handling, manufacturing, warehousing, or a similar industrial environment.
- Knowledge of safe hazardous-material handling and storage practices.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to accurately complete electronic and written records.
- Ability to follow operating procedures, safety requirements, and transfer instructions.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts and maintain regular, reliable attendance.
- Two or more years of related industrial experience.
- Experience loading and unloading tanker trucks and transferring bulk liquids using pumps, hoses, valves, or piping systems.
- Forklift, man-lift, or yard-tractor operating experience.
- Experience with chemical sampling, spill response, hazardous waste, or routine equipment maintenance.
- Familiarity with JDE or another inventory or ERP system.
