Job Description

Employment Type: This position is a minimum of 20 hours per week with the option to go full-time. Not to exceed 40 hours per week. It is performed primarily in customers’ homes and in community settings throughout Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington Counties, as well as surrounding areas. Work schedules are flexible and based on customer needs, contracted hours, and staff availability. Candidates should be prepared to commit to the role for at least one year.

Pay Range: $18.00–$20.00 per hour for one-on-one attendant care. $23.00–$25.00 per hour for support provided in a group setting. Pay is distributed monthly.

Position Summary

Opportunities Unlimited is seeking part-time and full-time Direct Support Professionals / Life Coaches to provide person-centered, one-on-one and small-group support for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This community-based role helps individuals build independence, participate in meaningful community activities, strengthen daily living skills, and make informed choices that support their personal goals.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in human services, psychology, social work, education, or a related field preferred.
  • Reliable, proactive, self-directed, and able to work independently in home and community settings.
  • Excellent verbal communication, organization, follow-through, and professional judgment.
  • Ability to pass a criminal history background check and drug screen as required by agency policy and applicable regulations.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification by the first day working directly with customers, or the ability to obtain it before providing direct support.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to maintain vehicle insurance minimums required by Opportunities Unlimited policy.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, email attachments, internet search, scanning, printing, and electronic documentation.
  • Ability to write detailed, objective, timely progress notes and submit required documentation.
  • Experience supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities is preferred but not required; paid training is provided.
  • Ability and willingness to commit to at least one year of employment.

Key Responsibilities

? Provide respectful, person-centered support that promotes dignity, choice, independence, self-determination, and community inclusion.

? Support customers in achieving individualized goals such as daily living skills, community participation, social connection, budgeting, grocery shopping, cooking, housekeeping, organization, and recreation.

? Coordinate directly with customers to schedule visits, confirm plans, and proactively communicate changes or rescheduling needs.

? Provide coaching, cueing, redirection, and skill-building support using positive, non-restrictive, and trauma-informed approaches.

? Assist customers in identifying and participating in safe, meaningful community activities, appointments, group outings, and relationship-building opportunities.

? Promote health and safety by following customer support plans, agency policies, Oregon DHS/ODDS requirements, confidentiality standards, and mandatory reporting obligations.

? Observe and document customer progress, support provided, incidents, mileage, and hours accurately and on time.

? Use Microsoft Word, email, internet search, scanning, printing, and attachments to complete documentation and administrative tasks.

? Attend required trainings, team meetings, and competency-based learning activities.

? Represent Opportunities Unlimited professionally in customers’ homes, public settings, and community partnerships.
