Setting: Inpatient Detoxification & Substance Use Disorder TreatmentPosition SummarySamba Recovery is seeking a highly qualified dual-certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with an active DEA registration to provide integrated medical, psychiatric, and substance use disorder treatment within our inpatient detoxification and recovery program.
This role requires the ability to evaluate and manage both the medical and psychiatric needs of patients experiencing substance withdrawal, substance use disorders, and co-occurring behavioral health conditions.
The Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively with the Medical Director, Director of Nursing, nursing staff, therapists, behavioral health technicians, case management, and other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team.Essential Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive admission histories, physical examinations, psychiatric evaluations, and ongoing clinical assessments.
  • Evaluate and manage acute and chronic medical conditions affecting patients in detoxification and recovery treatment.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat psychiatric and behavioral health conditions within authorized scope of practice.
  • Assess and manage alcohol, opioid, benzodiazepine, stimulant, and polysubstance withdrawal.
  • Diagnose and treat substance use disorders and co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions.
  • Prescribe and manage medications, including psychotropic medications, withdrawal-management medications, and medications used in substance use disorder treatment.
  • Provide Medication-Assisted Treatment and Medications for Opioid Use Disorder when clinically indicated.
  • Order, review, and interpret laboratory testing and diagnostic studies.
  • Monitor medication effectiveness, side effects, withdrawal symptoms, vital signs, laboratory findings, and changes in clinical condition.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor integrated medical and psychiatric treatment plans.
  • Identify patients requiring emergency intervention, hospitalization, or transfer to a higher level of care.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director, nursing department, therapists, case managers, pharmacy, hospitals, laboratories, and outside providers.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning, case consultation, clinical review, and staff meetings.
  • Provide patient education regarding medications, withdrawal management, psychiatric conditions, medical conditions, recovery, and continuing care.
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation within the Kipu Electronic Medical Record.
  • Participate in quality assurance, performance improvement, compliance, and accreditation activities.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, applicable substance use disorder confidentiality requirements, facility policies, and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in weekend, holiday, and on-call provider coverage as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).
  • Current national certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C or FNP-BC).
  • Current national certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
  • Candidates must hold both FNP and PMHNP certifications; single-specialty certification does not meet the minimum qualification.
  • Current and unrestricted Georgia RN license and APRN authorization/licensure, as applicable.
  • Active DEA registration.
  • Appropriate Georgia prescriptive authority and required nurse protocol agreement or physician delegation arrangements.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Strong medical, psychiatric, medication-management, documentation, and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Ability to independently assess complex patients with simultaneous medical, psychiatric, and substance use disorder needs within authorized scope of practice.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three or more years of Nurse Practitioner experience.
  • Previous experience in addiction medicine, detoxification, withdrawal management, substance use disorder treatment, psychiatry, or behavioral health.
  • Experience managing co-occurring medical and psychiatric disorders.
  • Experience prescribing and monitoring psychotropic medications.
  • Experience with CIWA-Ar, COWS, and other withdrawal-assessment protocols.
  • Experience with medications used in withdrawal management and addiction treatment.
  • Experience with Medication-Assisted Treatment and Medications for Opioid Use Disorder.
  • Experience using Kipu or a comparable behavioral health Electronic Medical Record system.
  • Experience within a Joint Commission, CARF, DBHDD, or similarly regulated healthcare environment.
Schedule
  • Full-time.
  • Weekend and holiday coverage may be required.
  • Participation in an on-call provider rotation may be required based on clinical needs and patient census.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Inpatient detoxification and behavioral health treatment environment.
  • Regular interaction with patients experiencing withdrawal symptoms, acute behavioral health symptoms, and co-occurring medical conditions.
  • Ability to recognize and respond promptly to medical and psychiatric changes in patient condition.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility during the workday.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to use stairs during emergency drills, evacuations, or facility activities.
