Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY


The Custodian is responsible for the routine cleaning, sanitizing, and upkeep of University facilities to ensure a safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position supports the operational goals of Facilities Management by maintaining assigned buildings and responding to departmental needs in accordance with University policies and procedures.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND FUNCTIONS


    Perform routine cleaning of academic buildings, residence halls, offices, restrooms, and common areasSweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, and maintain floors using appropriate equipment and cleaning solutionsClean and disinfect restrooms; replenish paper goods and soap dispensersRemove trash and recycling; transport to designated disposal areasDust, wipe, and sanitize furniture, fixtures, and high-touch surfacesClean glass surfaces, mirrors, doors, and windowsAssist with event setup and breakdown, including moving tables, chairs, and equipmentReport maintenance concerns, safety hazards, and supply shortages promptlyMaintain custodial equipment in proper working conditionFollow all safety protocols, including proper chemical handling and PPE usageSupport summer turnover projects and special campus cleaning initiatives

    Adhere to all University policies outlined in the Employee HandbookMaintain regular and punctual attendanceDemonstrate professionalism and respectful communication in a campus environmentComply with OSHA standards and University safety guidelinesPerform duties in alignment with the mission and values of the University


QUALIFICATIONS


Required:

    Ability to perform physical labor and custodial tasksAbility to follow written and verbal instructionsAbility to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred:

    High school diploma or GEDPrevious custodial or housekeeping experience

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:


    Profess Christian faith.Have a commitment to the Christian mission of the University, as well as a commitment to actively promote its vision, mission, and values.
4. Professional appearance and presentation in the working environment (including business casual attire).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reachingAbility to lift, carry, and move up to 40 poundsAbility to operate standard custodial equipmentExposure to cleaning chemicals and varying indoor/outdoor temperatures
