Job Description
Sawyer County Health and Human Services is accepting applications for a full-time Economic Support Specialist (ESS). Under the direct supervision of the Economic Support Unit Supervisor, the ESS worker will provide a variety of economic support services to clients, including providing information about and determining eligibility for categorical aids through public assistance. Additionally, the ESS worker will interpret and apply federal and state laws and regulations, policy, and procedures to individual case circumstances in order to meet the needs of low-income families. Serve as a call-center agent for Northern Income Maintenance Consortium. As with all positions with the agency, it is the duty of the individual in this position to fully support the mission, vision and values of the agency, to work in a coordinated manner with other employees, and to demonstrate professional and personal confidence in the service delivery model and approaches taken by the organization, including integrating trauma informed care while serving our communities.
Qualifications include a high school diploma as well as two (2) years of post-secondary education or (2) years of college (60 credits) in business, human services, or related field; or a current Economic Support Specialist who has successfully completed the state-mandatory economic support training. Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Education, or related field is desirable. Also, three (3) years of experience dealing with the public, or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

The ESS interprets and applies federal and state laws, regulations, policies, and procedures to individual case circumstances to meet the needs of low-income families. Employees are expected to support the mission, vision, and values of the agency and integrate trauma-informed care practices.
Duties and Responsibilities
Qualifications
High school diploma required; two years of post-secondary education or equivalent experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field preferred.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of state systems and policies; ability to communicate effectively; ability to work independently; proficiency in computer systems; understanding of human behavior, crisis intervention, and assessment skills.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Ability to perform office tasks including computer work, maintain concentration, and perform light physical activity. Ability to analyze data, communicate effectively, and exercise sound judgment.
