Among the courses are multiple sections of SOC 0460 RACE AND ETHNICITY and SOC 0477 MEDICAL SOCIOLOGY, plus a section each of SOC 1450 HEALTH AND ILLNESS and SOC 0475 SOCIOLOGY OF AGING.

Our undergraduate program teaches diverse students to apply the powerful analytical tools of the sociological lens to understand ourselves, our interactions, and groups ranging from families and “frenemies” to social movements, institutions, complex organizations, nations, and the world system. We value flexible teachers who can engage students in active learning. We are particularly interested in candidates whose teaching fires students’ sociological imaginations.

Responsibilities: Teach as instructor of record one or two online, asynchronous courses per semester.

Preferred qualifications: Preferred qualifications include Ph.D. in Sociology or similarly appropriate discipline in hand at time of appointment, experience as an instructor of record teaching a course at the college level, demonstrated excellence in multiple instructional modalities and experience with remote, online, or distance teaching and online course development, demonstrated commitment to innovative pedagogical practices, and experience working with, and/or commitment to, non-traditional students and their needs.

Document Requirements:

– Your current C.V.

– A brief teaching statement that explains your approach to online, asynchronous instruction and your substantive qualifications for teaching either Race & Ethnicity or courses in medical sociology, sociology of health and illness, and aging.

– Names and contact information of two professional references, who will be notified with instructions on how to submit letters.

Please apply online at: https://facultysearch.as.pitt.edu/apply/index/Mjc2. Review of applications will begin on 10 July 2026 and will continue until the positions are filled. To ensure full consideration, applications must be received by 31 July 2026. The Sociology Department contact e-mail address is nit72@pitt.edu.

Other required items: 2 references who are able to be contacted
