Responsibilities
ECE Level 1 / Kitchen Assistant Responsibilities
- Assist as a 1:1 aid to a child.
- Support children's emotional, physical, and behavioural well-being while helping to develop their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills.
- Maintain attendance records and complete health and safety checks.
- Work with professionals, such as Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Early Interventionists, as required.
- Support children through transitions in and out of the classroom.
- Participate and engage in team meetings, workshops, and professional development opportunities.
- Portion, prepare, and serve snacks and meals to children in accordance with established procedures.
- Handle and prepare special meals and snacks for children with allergies, vegetarian diets, and other dietary requirements as provided by the Commissary Kitchen.
- Ensure proper food storage and safe disposal of food items.
- Comply with all food safety, sanitation, health, and hygiene regulations.
- Clean and sanitize appliances, utensils, kitchen equipment, counters, cupboards, and drawers.
- Sweep and mop floors after meal service and remove garbage and recycling at the end of each shift.
- Assist with the preparation of food for field trips, school-age programs, and community events as required.
- Support the overall operation of the centre by maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for children and staff.
Specifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels with children, parents and co-workers.
- Ability to utilize computer systems for all documentation, reporting, and classroom operations
- Strong collaborator and team player
- Ability to take initiative in and out of the classroom
- Strong problem-solving skills
Qualifications
- ECE certified (Level 1)
- Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid Standard Child Care First Aid and CPR Level B
- Valid Food Handler certificate
- Ability to push, pull and lift up- to 45 pounds
