EMS/OHS/QMS Auditor in New York at Jobgether

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an EMS/OHS/QMS Auditor based in the United States.

This role offers the opportunity to evaluate and strengthen management systems across diverse organizations and industrial environments.
You will conduct third-party audits covering environmental, occupational health and safety, and quality management systems.
The position combines independent fieldwork, client interaction, technical assessment, and detailed reporting.
You will assess documentation, observe operations, interview personnel, and identify areas of both conformance and nonconformance.
Your findings and recommendations will help clients improve compliance, operational performance, risk management, and management-system effectiveness.
The role involves extensive travel and exposure to a wide range of client facilities, making it well suited to an adaptable and self-directed auditor.
You will also have opportunities to mentor fellow auditors and contribute to the development of a strong professional audit team.

• Follow applicable compliance codes, policies, procedures, and professional auditing standards.
• Represent the audit team professionally when interacting with clients and their employees.
• Develop detailed audit plans based on applicable management-system requirements and client-specific objectives.
• Plan and coordinate travel arrangements associated with assigned audits.
• Evaluate client management systems through document and record reviews, on-site observations, facility assessments, and personnel interviews.
• Conduct third-party assessments of environmental, occupational health and safety, and quality management systems.
• Identify, evaluate, and document areas of conformance and nonconformance against applicable standards and requirements.
• Prepare comprehensive audit reports that clearly communicate findings, evidence, conclusions, and recommendations.
• Review client corrective-action responses and evaluate whether proposed actions adequately address identified nonconformities.
• Submit accurate time and expense reports within established deadlines.
• Train, mentor, and, when requested, witness audit teammates as part of auditor qualification and development processes.
• Maintain professional communication and strong client relationships throughout the audit lifecycle.
• Travel extensively to client locations, typically spending 3–5 nights per week away from home and up to approximately 90% of working time traveling by air or automobile.
• Work effectively in industrial environments and navigate client facilities safely while performing assessment activities.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities associated with the position as required.

Requirements:

• Education and advanced coursework, training, or professional experience in environmental, occupational health and safety, and/or quality management.
• At least 5 years of professional industry experience.
• Knowledge of manufacturing systems, processes, and operational practices.
• Strong understanding of environmental and occupational health and safety laws, regulations, and applicable management-system requirements.
• Experience implementing and/or auditing ISO management systems.
• ISO 9001, ISO 14001, or ISO 45001 Lead Auditor training is required.
• Third-party auditing experience is strongly preferred.
• Ability to independently manage audits, client relationships, documentation, travel, and multiple priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain audit findings and recommendations.
• Strong analytical and observational skills, including the ability to review technical documentation and identify evidence of compliance or gaps.
• Professional judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain objectivity during assessments.
• Ability to travel approximately 90% of the time by plane or automobile and remain away from home for multiple nights each week.
• Valid driver's license and reliable driving record are required.
• Must reside in the United States and be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Ability to communicate and interact effectively in both written and verbal formats.
• Ability to read, understand, and interpret technical reports, manuals, records, computer displays, and other detailed materials.
• Ability to conduct physical assessment activities within client facilities, including bending, stooping, reaching, climbing, and navigating stairs, ladders, scaffolding, ramps, and similar structures.
• Ability to remain on your feet and walk for typical 6–8 hour shifts.
• Comfortable working in a variety of industrial environments and around operational equipment.
• Ability to communicate detailed instructions and information clearly and accurately.
• Sufficient hearing and visual acuity to perform interviews, inspections, document reviews, data analysis, and other audit activities, with or without reasonable correction.
• Ability to occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force and frequently or continuously perform activities involving minimal physical force, as required for field assessments.
