About the Role

The Mobile Night Automotive Service Technician works independently on overnight shifts to diagnose, inspect, maintain, and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems on fleet and commercial vehicles in accordance with manufacturer standards and safety regulations. The role emphasizes preventative maintenance, complex troubleshooting, and accurate documentation to ensure vehicles are fully operational and ready for service at the start of the day. Success in this position requires strong hands-on mechanical expertise, the ability to work safely with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment, and clear communication regarding vehicle condition and repair recommendations.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues across a variety of vehicles in accordance with manufacturer specifications
  2. Perform routine maintenance and complex repairs on brakes, engines, suspensions, and electrical systems
  3. Conduct thorough vehicle inspections and preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and identify potential issues early
  4. Use diagnostic equipment, schematics, and technical manuals to accurately troubleshoot and complete repairs
  5. Safely and effectively operate hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment
  6. Accurately document work performed, parts used, and report any critical findings
  7. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace in compliance with safety standards
  8. Work independently while adhering to company procedures and quality standards
  9. Communicate clearly with team members and, when required, provide professional updates to clients regarding vehicle condition and repair recommendations
  10. Support efficient workflow to ensure vehicles are serviced and ready for operation at the start of the day
  11. Perform other related duties as assigned

Working Conditions

  1. Overnight shifts, minimal supervision
  2. Exposure to noise, fumes, moving equipment, and heavy machinery
  3. Fast-paced, physically demanding work requiring prolonged standing, bending, crouching, and kneeling

Reports to

Works under general supervision and independently as required

Positions Supervised

None. May assist in training new employees

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

  1. Grade 10 education or equivalent
  2. Minimum one (1) year of related automotive or mechanical experience
  3. Basic diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  4. Proven experience in automotive repair with strong hands-on mechanical knowledge
  5. Strong understanding of automotive electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems
  6. Ability to read and interpret schematics, service manuals, and technical documents
  7. Ability to use standard tools and equipment safely and effectively
  8. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  9. Comfortable working overnight shifts in a shop environment
  10. Comfortable working in a fast-paced shop environment
  11. Physically capable of lifting and handling heavy components (up to 50 lbs)
  12. Reliable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving ability
  13. Valid Class 5 driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Three (3) or more years of recent, related automotive repair experience
  2. Experience working with fleet or commercial vehicles
  3. Experience as an Automative Technician Apprentice and/or Tire Technician

  1. Ability to work in compliance with company policies and WorkSafeBC safety regulations
  2. Ability to handle stress within a multifaceted work environment
  3. Strong problem solving and troubleshooting ability
  4. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
  5. Professional communication skills
  6. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing to team workflow
  7. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
