RATE OF PAY $34.40-$42.15 PER HOUR (D.O.E.)

JOB SUMMARY:

The Trails and Open Space Coordinator oversees a variety of projects including day-to-day operations, environmental field work, equipment repair, GIS, trail maintenance, grants, and community outreach. The Trails and Open Space Coordinator ensures compliance with policies and procedures, evaluates project outcomes, and tracks allocations and expenditures, and supports all program areas.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Assists the Trails and Open Space Program Manager as needed to coordinate responsibilities related to the maintenance, enhancement, and expansion of the City’s extensive trails system and open spaces properties.
  • Builds and maintains partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, City departments, land trusts, and community partners to achieve long-term land management goals.
  • Researches and tracks policies, ordinances, events, and programs as they relate to trails and open space management such as non-motorized and electric bike usage, special events, donations, etc.
  • Leads asset and property management projects such as day-to-day operations, seasonal tasks, resource conditions, and infrastructure inventory.
  • Provides oversight of vendors, proposals, and budgets for City service contracts such as trails maintenance, vault toilets, dog waste bag stations, etc.
  • Performs a variety of administrative tasks including but not limited to grant management, contract compliance, updating lists for contacts, keys, and gate codes, and responding to public inquires.
  • Supports Trails and Open Space staff in the management of specific program areas such as forestry, fuels, asset protection, noxious weeds, etc.
  • Plans and coordinates public outreach events, educational materials, media communications, and volunteer programing in partnership with relevant City departments and community partners.
  • Monitors Park City’s trails and open space properties frontcountry and backcountry areas as needed via hiking, biking, skiing, and driving.
  • Drafts detailed reports for civil enforcement, maintenance, staff updates, and communicating with stakeholders.
  • All related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid State Driver’s License.
  • Two or more years of experience managing contracts, budgets, procurement, and/or grants.
  • Two or more years of experience in natural resource management, environmental education, and/or land use planning.
  • Experience working independently and communicating in remote environments.
  • A valid Driver’s license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in natural resource management, environmental studies, recreation management, or a related field.
  • Three or more years of experience in trails management and planning, land use violations, and/or travel and tourism industry.
  • Certified GIS technician.
  • Spanish speaking.
  • Wilderness First Responder Certification.
  • Avalanche Certification.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 75 pounds.
  • Physical fitness is a requirement for performing tasks in the field.
  • Substantial work will take place outside in varying conditions. Hiking and cycling may be appropriate for examination, data gathering, or other trails related issues.
  • Use of equipment including motorized vehicles, chainsaws, and tools, in coordination with the appropriate safety equipment will be required.
  • Hard hats, safety vests, and other safety equipment are required when working around and under equipment and buildings, as well as moving vehicles and equipment on streets, parks, and fields.
  • Periodic exposure to stressful situations and frequent interaction with the public.
  • May require small amounts of travel to and from meetings, trainings, and conferences.
  • Occasional non-traditional working hours which may include evening and weekend meetings.
  • Occasional on-call working hours including evenings and weekends.
