Associate Director, Donor Fundraising Strategy and Innovation

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Associate Director, Donor Fundraising Strategy and Innovation based in the United States.

As an Associate Director, Donor Fundraising Strategy and Innovation, you’ll shape strategies that strengthen individual donor engagement and drive sustainable membership revenue. You’ll develop audience-first fundraising approaches across multiple marketing channels, using data, experimentation, and market insights to improve performance. The role combines strategic leadership, innovation, analytics, and cross-functional collaboration within a complex organization. You’ll identify emerging fundraising opportunities, evaluate new approaches through risk-and-reward analysis, and guide their implementation. You’ll also manage multidisciplinary teams and ensure resources remain aligned with organizational priorities. This is a full-time, remote opportunity for an experienced fundraising leader who is curious, proactive, and passionate about developing innovative direct-response strategies.

Accountabilities
  • Develop, implement, and manage effective, audience-first strategies for individual donor solicitation and engagement across available marketing channels.

  • Lead the development, evaluation, testing, and ongoing optimization of fundraising strategies for defined membership audiences.

  • Identify emerging opportunities, industry trends, and innovative approaches that can support short- and long-term membership revenue growth.

  • Evaluate and launch new fundraising initiatives using data, experimentation, performance analysis, and risk/reward assessments.

  • Monitor audience-level reporting and analytics, translating insights into strategic recommendations and actions.

  • Lead strategic decisions within the defined membership audience portfolio and identify opportunities to improve performance and return on investment.

  • Collaborate closely with internal department leaders and cross-functional teams to align audience strategies with broader organizational priorities and goals.

  • Partner with senior leaders and external stakeholders to ensure fundraising strategies support the overall vision and direction.

  • Develop and maintain strategic documentation, frameworks, and plans that provide clarity and alignment across teams.

  • Directly manage and align staff efforts with priorities established by senior leadership.

  • Manage and supervise a multidisciplinary team, supporting effective collaboration, accountability, and professional development.

  • Plan and manage budgets associated with fundraising strategies and initiatives.

  • Develop and oversee multiple projects and strategic priorities simultaneously within a complex organizational environment.

  • Work closely with senior strategy and deployment leaders to identify opportunities for growth, innovation, and improved fundraising performance.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 7 years of relevant professional experience.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and deploying direct-response fundraising strategies.

  • Strong understanding of direct-response fundraising principles, practices, processes, and evolving industry trends.

  • Experience planning, managing, and delivering against budgets.

  • Demonstrated experience managing and supervising multidisciplinary teams.

  • Proven ability to develop, manage, and implement multiple projects and strategic initiatives simultaneously.

  • Experience working effectively within complex organizations and across multiple organizational levels.

  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders across departments.

  • Data-driven decision-making skills and the ability to translate analytics into actionable fundraising strategies.

  • Strong strategic thinking, with a proactive and anticipatory approach to identifying opportunities and challenges.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to work effectively with senior leaders.

  • Curiosity and willingness to test, learn, iterate, and adopt new fundraising approaches and technologies.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance multiple priorities while maintaining strategic focus.

  • A collaborative leadership style and the ability to motivate teams around shared objectives.

  • Starting salary range of $113,450–$165,450 USD, applicable to candidates whose country of employment is the United States.
