Fabrication Supervisor in Red Deer, Alberta at Canalta Controls Ltd

We are looking for an experienced Fabrication Supervisor to lead our fabrication team and coordinate welding, cutting, fit-up, assembly, and related production activities. This is a working-supervisor position suited to someone who can provide strong day-to-day leadership, technical guidance, and hands-on production support when needed.

• Provide daily direction to the fabrication team and establish clear expectations for safety, quality, productivity, attendance, and workplace conduct.
• Plan and prioritize fabrication work based on production schedules, drawings, material availability, employee qualifications, and customer delivery commitments.
• Monitor work in progress, labour utilization, equipment capacity, and schedule risks to keep production requirements on track.
• Coach and train employees and apprentices to build technical capability and maintain safe, consistent workmanship.
• Participate in recruitment, onboarding, performance reviews, employee development, and corrective action processes.
• Lead toolbox and departmental meetings to communicate production priorities, safety information, operational changes, and performance expectations.
• Ensure welding and fabrication work meets approved drawings, weld procedures, inspection requirements, quality standards, and applicable ABSA and PED requirements.
• Coordinate inspections, Factory Acceptance Tests, non-conformance investigations, and corrective actions with Quality and other departments.
• Promote safe work practices, complete workplace inspections, address hazards, and participate in incident and near-miss investigations.
• Coordinate equipment maintenance, consumables, tools, materials, and housekeeping requirements to support safe and reliable production.
• Maintain accurate production records and job information in Business Central and other company systems.
• Perform or assist with welding, fabrication, equipment operation, and other production work when needed to provide technical support or maintain workflow.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a recognized trade apprenticeship and journeyperson certification in a relevant welding or fabrication trade is preferred.
• At least five years of relevant fabrication, welding, or industrial manufacturing experience.
• At least five years of supervisory or progressive leadership experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of FCAW, GMAW, MCAW, and SMAW welding processes and general fabrication practices.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, datasheets, weld procedures, material specifications, and dimensional requirements.
• Experience working within regulated quality systems; knowledge of ABSA and PED requirements is considered an asset.
• Strong leadership, planning, communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
• Working proficiency with Business Central and Microsoft Office applications.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
• Current overhead crane and forklift operator training, or the ability to obtain and maintain the required training.
• Ability to work overtime or adjusted hours when required to support production or operational needs.
