The Putney School seeks an hourly, part-time, evening library assistant to work from 6:00 pm. to 9:30 p.m., on Mondays and/or Fridays.
The evening librarian supervises the library during the evening hours between dinner and in-dorms. They assist students with their reference needs, maintain an atmosphere conducive to studying, and process and shelve books.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Supervises the library during evening hours often overseeing as many as 70 teenagers while maintaining an atmosphere that is supportive of evening study
- Basic library circulation tasks including shelving and shelf reading
- New book processing (covering, basic cataloging)
- Reference desk assistance
- Basic computer and copier troubleshooting
- Monitors the checkout desk and maintains inventory control
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a school library
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree and, experience in a school library
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ATTRIBUTES, AND ABILITIES:
- A friendly presence and helpful attitude; excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others.
- The ability to handle constantly changing flow of traffic; be able to prioritize effectively during busy times, exercise patience and professionalism during stressful situations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to shelve and reorganize books, which sometimes requires standing for long periods of time, and pushing a cart of books as well as reaching to the top shelf of library shelving
- Ability to do computer work for extended periods of time
